I've got a 94 Camaro and I cannot for the life of me find a speed shop around Dover Delaware that will do an overhaul on my engine! I just think I'm lacking the contacts..anyway. I've got $5k and I'm interested in the Grand AM 99+ top end swap. However, I cant find the parts I need around here (Dover). I have also been looking into the LS1 swap..like everyone else.
Anyone know a "East Coast Customs" around Delaware? lol.
I'm going to post this in the V8 and or Eastern Coast forums also.

$5k?
you can probably do an ls1 swap for that, even at a shop.
I enjoy the v6 and all, but damn... ls1>v6. Especially a v6 you will have problems tuning afterwards.

LS1 swap for $5 GR?
I doubt that.
The drivetrain will be at least half that lowball estimate. Toss in labor and accessories needed for an LS1.....$8 GR or so is my call.
I haven't had much luck seeing any top end parts to where I can grab everything in one swift swoop, but I have seen everything in such manner using car-part.com

My Ls1 swap cost $3,500.00 :)
with heads/cam/built tranny and a Yank 3600 converter... I stole that combo.. but anyway
If anyone needs any random 3.4 parts, let me know..
its not that hard to find ls1 drivetrains with accessories for 3500-4000 anymore.

why would you have problems tuning? because its a 3.4?

please ask "RE AND CHERYL" from the board!
He is from Dover DE and I think he knows someone (if there is a good mechanic or shop in Dover......)

5K is a nice lump of change to play with, I don't know why you would want to settle for an intake swap with so-so results when you could do alot more with that money.

yep pretty much...
no hptuners, very few tuners that tune and if you can even find someone they charge an arm and a leg. Or oyu could go completely aftermarket with the computer but then you drop a fortune on that.
or you could get a lt1 with lt1 edit swap it in and make more power. Unless I guess you are deadset on a v6.
I know its a bit of a paradox... but the topend swap did make power, not going to argue it, but has it every put down good track times?
I am for modding the 3.4L and enjoying it but think the money involved for the topend swap is pricey. It woudln't be so bad if you didn't have to redo the internals.
If you were deadset on keeping it a 60* v6. Maybe see if you can't mount one of the FWD versions of the motor into the f-body, and if you get a newer one you might be able to transfer over the PCM and harness from where ever you got the motor from and if its from a newere car I believe hptuners covers alot of them.
Like get a 3400 out of a grand am, from intak ot oil pan, then put it in your car put some headers and some bolt ons(maybe a cam?) and see if you can get the pcm to work in your car. Will be alot easier if you have a 5-speed.
Say you get a 3400 aren't they rated at like 180-190hp? from oilpan to intake, you could probbly get one for like $1k? maybe less. And just drop it in as is. The motor mount issue might be dead simple or a problme. since its a 60* v6 block it may already have the same ounting points as a normal 3.4L.
Don't know just throwing some ideas out there...
but for $5k I think you can definitely get better results done then a 3.4L with a topend swap

I concur... Your best bet is a LS1/LT1 swap.
$5k is way to much money for 50rwhp.. I spent under $5k on my whole LT1 car. To be honest you'd probably be better selling the car and getting a Z28, unless you are worried about ins/gas.
Get a posi and spray it maybe? IDK how good 3.4's hold up on spray and I def agree the top end flow is lacking.

I think I'm going to go for the whole shabang and just buy an LS1, or try to anyway. I found a midnight blue manual 2000 SS with 47901 miles on it. They're asking 1k more than what its worth. Im going to try and haggle with them.
