Hit a speedbump fast...Brake light on...why?!?

It was dark and raining...I saw a speed bump at the last second(My TA is lowered 2") so I had to slam on the brakes, and hit the bump going probably 10-15...when I should be going 2mph.

Car isnt damaged, but the brake light came on, I guess cause the ABS kicked in? Well the Brake light has been on for months now. Brake fluid is fine, stops fine...anyone know why this might be? Or more importantly, how to turn the Brake light off? Im trying to sell the car...

Check the adjustment of the brake light switch mounted above the brake pedal. You can adjust it in and out so it turns the light on when you press the pedal. I suspect if you hit hard, maybe it moved against the pedal. You probably need to back it out.

Is this the straight metal rod that is coming out of the firewall?

Its hard to get up under there and see it...Is it easy to adjust? Looked like it had some weird clip on it....

Thats not it. That shaft leads to your brake booster. The switch should have a plug and wire on it. I will go look at my T/A later and tell you where it is.

The switch is not that far up under the dash. It is located near the steering column and it is mounted on a bracket. It has a little plunger that rests against the arm of the brake pedal. I believe it was threaded into a square clip that snaps into the mounting bracket.

I am working from memory here and it has been a while since I looked at the schematic. You should be able to measure the voltage on one side of it to ground. When you press the pedal, it should change state from 12V to 0V if the switch is working properly. If you are on the wrong side (battery side) of the switch, it will always measure 12V.
