balancer came loose around 5500 rpm at the track. limped it down the return road was running bad. barely enough power to get on the trailer. found the loose balancer and a p0335/p0336 code. replace ckp sensor. car will start fine and react sluggish to throttle as soon as it starts to warm up it gets much worse. still throws ckp codes. is this sensor that important or do i have bigger problems? can't find any intake or exhaust leaks.

Is it possible something whacked the distributor?

Any particular reason you didn't post this on LT1 Tech?

sorry fred guess i coulda posted it there, but while i'm here let me ask a question. on the '97 crank pos. sensor is there anyway for the slotted disk that it's sensing to come loose?

The hub holds the reluctor wheel in position. It is keyed to the crankshaft on the lower crank gear keyway. If the hub is not installed all the way on ,it could cause the reluctor wheel to move around.

Could you have a wire that is broke, maybe inside of the insulation? due to the fact that the balancer came off?

i took it into the shop and they are also scratching thier heads. thier thinking is even though it's p0335 codes they are being tripped by the opti. i replaced it about a month ago and it was running fine until the balncer issue.

Is it possible you are getting interference into the CKP wire harness..... perhaps from a too-close plug or coil wire? Any spurious pulses in the CKP harness will give the PCM fits trying to interpret the data.

problem solved. after having it scanned results showed that definitely the ckp sensor was fine. but what they did find was an unusual reading coming from the 8x opti signal. why it wasn't throwing an opti related code is beyond me. i have very little electronics knowledge but looking at the wiring diagram it seems that one wire from the opti connector runs through the ckp sensor. anyway just wanted to let anyone having a p0335/p0336 ckp codes might be looking at a bad opti.
fred thanks for all the help.
