2lane69 07-24-2006, 10:12 AM Not that it's necessarily a big secret, or that the car mags actually know whats going on, but I thought it was interesting.
I was at the Car Craft Summer Nationals on Sunday, and the Editor (forgot his name) was talking over the intercom before the Miss Car Craft contest and stated that from what they had heard the new Camaro was going to be produced, and also would look almost identical to the concept. They commented that in many cases, concepts take a far turn from the actual car, but that was not going to be the case with the new Camaro. Since they went so far as to make that distinction, I thought that was pretty cool.
Maybe it's not newsworthy, but it sure was exciting to hear whilst strolling through hundreds(thousands?) of beautiful cars!

DvBoard 07-24-2006, 05:32 PM Yet another magazine taking a shot in the dark and hoping to be right and get credit, cause no one will remember who was wrong. only those that where correct.
Rob V 07-24-2006, 07:14 PM The only people who know for sure are the people within GM who are working on it "as if it were an approved program". Until we hear Scott saying "The Camaro will be produced in 20XX" (And he'll post here the second he can), take anything you hear with a grain of salt.
toegead93 07-24-2006, 08:15 PM I thought everybody already new it is going to be produced, it's just a matter of when it will be released. Of coarse until GM says the magic words you can argue that there's a chance of it not coming, but realistically looking at the situation it WILL be produced. Take a look at every hint Mr. Setlemire has dropped...it is moving along for production.

2lane69 07-25-2006, 10:05 AM Shucks, I think that translates to 2020?!? Jeez, my Silverado will have a brazillion miles by then! ;)
Yeah, I know the car mags don't have a real clue, but it sure got my ears perked up as I was strolling through countless 1st gens all over our fairgrounds on Sunday!!
Until I hear the magic words from the man himself, I will wait with child-like anticipation with a tinge of trepidation!
Okay, now back to daydreaming about what color I would like.....

J/K, it was a play on words from a joke I'd heard.
The President was informed that two Brazilian soldiers were killed. He exclaimed great shock and outrage...then asks, 'Wait, how many is a Brazillion?'

Well, while sooner would be nice, I'll be content with a 2010 model.
I've finally gotten bored to death of my Aveo and am looking into leasing a leftover 2006 Frontier. If I lease it for 36 months that'll take me 'til August '09. Perfect timing to get a '10 Camaro. Or even a leftover '09, if it comes out as an '09 (and assuming there are leftovers due to popularity).
sselie 07-26-2006, 09:28 AM well...coulda said 20XX or 20JJ or 20mm.......but I didn't!

rgenzmer 07-26-2006, 09:43 PM You guys might want to listen more to MSNBC and other financial news networks instead of just the Car Mags. Money will drive this issue, not want or emotion etc. GM has plenty of $ problems and an impending deal with Renault coming up to worry about taking a chance with a Muscle Car. Besides, along with the 'stang there will be a year head start with that bitchin' Challenger.
Proud owner of many Camaro's in my 55 years but have to strip the emotion from this issue and look at the dollars and cents.
Ain't going to happen. Restore what you got now and make it last.

Rob V 07-26-2006, 09:51 PM I'd rather listen to Scott Settlemire, the Fbodfather himself, instead of outside 'analysts'.
Shawn 97 Z28 M6 07-26-2006, 10:54 PM Scott better give us a more accurate yr. for the new inception of the new Camaro :p... My lease is up in mid '08 and I've got my eye on a '06 TB SS right now...... Really trying to keep out of digging into my pocketbook and swapping over to that from my truck.
That way that too can sit at the airport teminal M-F while I travel about the country during the week. lol
Purple 92 SS 07-27-2006, 07:52 AM Hey Rgenzmer, you do realize that gm actually was in the green for 2nd quarter right? minus the one time pay outs they'd of came up as + 1 billion.. soooo.. i dont think that $ is that bad right now.. Its probably still an issue, but the general has turned the corner.. theyve got the ship headed in the right direction, and that direction includes the new camaro.

I'm in investments, actually. So yeah, I'm on the market like glue. Go check out GM's latest earnings report, and then come on here and tell us what you learned....
Furthermore, there is no 'impending' deal with Renault. It's merely an 'exploration' at this point. Don't assume you know what information I'm aware of, or not aware of. Obviously, many factors come into play....that is why we are all so anxious to hear an actual announcement.
LandonElf 07-27-2006, 11:15 AM Ain't going to happen. Restore what you got now and make it last.
I find it hard to beleive that GM would dump so many millions into a something that "aint going to happen." Also, GM was working on the the Camaro project long before they hit the recent "sigh of releif" profit margins. They were dumping 5 million into the project even while the "bankruptcy" word kept getting whispered. GM wants this car just as bad as we do.
If it were just a marketing scheme, then it didn't wor----wait a second, how did that Cobalt SS/SC get into my driveway 2 weeks after the AJC auto show? HOLY CRAP, i've been tricked!

Should have reported this post to the moderators as a bad post ;) Nice sig. Scott, oh by the way your autograph you left on my strut tower a few years ago at the Woodstock Ontario Camaro Nationals has faded, let me know next time you are in the area to touch it up
Thanks
rgenzmer 08-03-2006, 11:51 PM Just because a company such as GM 'turns the corner by making some money' still doesn't mean they have turned the corner for the business model they are.
A company dealing in sales of products can 'make' money several different ways. One of those ways is expense management or cost reduction that goes right to the bottom line and reflects that the company 'made' money.
One other way is to actually increase sales of their products, penetrate new markets and increase profit margins on those sales.
I believe that GM has 'made' money due to expense management or cost cutting and not necessarily by increasing sales. As most financial analysts would tell you that to continue year after year 'making' money by cost reductions and not through increasing sales is a train coming at you approximately 3-5 years down the road. And guess what GM wants coming down the road 3-5 years from now....yep, the Concept Crumaro.
If they don't work on 'making' money by increasing sales (which they aren't), opening new market in the USA (which they aren't) or increasing their margins (0 percent financing, rebates, incentives, etc.) aren't. In fact they are actually squeezing their margins with those programs.
I would love to see GM come out of it, I would love to see them penetrate something other than the SUV market but taking a 'concept car chance' is not what GM should be doing now.
As a fairly well known person (his name is on the Super Bowl trophy) once said - practice the fundamentals, practice, practice, practice - then we will mix in a trick (concept) play.
GM, get your fundamentals in order, sales up, redesign that psuedo Cadillac you call a Camaro and then send me the number of the nearest dealer.
Peace out

He must've been using a cheap pen that day... mine faded as well. Scott was kind enough to "touch it up" in Bowling Green for me a couple of years ago. Come down to B.G. next month and I'm sure he'll do the same for you!:D
