New incentives starting 7/19?

My wife and I are looking into purchasing either a new HHR or Colorado. We were at a Chevy dealer yesterday and the salesperson with whom we've dealt with on numerous occasions said it might be best to wait until the 19th because he's hearing rumors of some new incentives or promotion.

I checked Chevy's website and all their rebates and special interest rates end on 7/18. So my question to you knowledgable people is what's the new promotion? Is it worth waiting until Wednesday?

Is it worth wating? Depends on whatever the new incentives may be.

When I ordered my SS, the delivery was delayed for about a month. By the time the vehicle arrived at the dealer, GM had instituted a $2,000 rebate. Since it wasn't exactly torture driving my '96 Z-28 around, it was a profitable month for me!

This brings up a question I've had in my mind for a while... is it standard fare to apply incentive deadlines to special order delivery times as well. As in, if there's a special lease rate or rebate at the time I place a special order, but it's gone a month later when my car comes in, am I just screwed, then? What if, say, I knew another rebate was coming out in a week and decided to take my sweet-*** time to get up to the dealer and take delivery of my car? What actually constitutes the time in which rebates and lease rates are applied to a car when it's special ordered?

I wanted my Audi to come with the 'tech package' and didn't want the stupid headlight washers and extra-cost paint color that was on the only 2.0T 6-speed manual they had on the lot. So I was fully prepared to special order and just drive my old car until then - I was in no rush.

But the sales lady warned me that it would take 2 months or so for my car to come in and that the special lease rates that were advertised were set to expire in 3 more weeks.

So I asked her "basically you're telling me that you won't be able to determine my lease rate until the car is delivered??" She said yes. But to me that means they'd have absolutely no incentive to bargain with me if the special lease rates were gone. I mean, I comitted to leasing that particular vehicle without comitting to a particular rate, so they could screw me.

This seems like a risk no sane person would be willing to take.

Soo... was she kinda BS'ing me and in reality if they wanted to they could 'lock' the rate in upon special ordering, but she just wanted the sales comission that day and not 2 months from now?

Or does it just depend on the manufacturer in question?

Re: New incentives starting 7/19?

We did some numbers on an '06 Colorado Crew Cab 1LT w/3.5L 5. Right now they have a $2,500 cash allowance. He said they may do Employee Pricing again, since that's what Dodge & Chrysler are doing. If they did employee pricing than my car payment would be less by $8 per month. He also said it may be 0% financing, but since I'm already approved with my credit union I wouldn't want GMAC running my credit. So is it worth it?

Also, last night I was looking at Chevy's website and they had the '06 info for the HHR and the Colorado. Today, they have the '07 info for the HHR and Colorado and the prices increased slightly.

My father-in-law's best friend is the body shop manager at a Chevy/Pontiac/Buick/GMC/Cadillac dealership, and he knows I am looking at leasing an Impala SS or a CTS in the next few weeks.

He called my father-in-law yesterday and told him that at their managers meeting that they were going to have a super lease deal on CTS's in the coming week...so much so that they brought in several extra CTS's this week.... so he was telling me to keep my eyes open.

This seems to jive with what you were told, so yes, I expect some sort of program this week.

8 dollars a month??? Um, can you explain how the numbers on that are working out because I'd be glad to lease ANY new car for 8 bucks a month as long as it can get from point A to point B.

I heard of some pretty insane lease deals that people were able to get on 04 GTOs at one point... like 170 a month or something like that.

I went over to the Chrysler website a few days back when they were doing employee discount promos and didn't see any real compelling lease offers as a result of the employee discounts.

But if GM did a great lease offer... it would be made even sweeter by my GM card points (I have like 3500 saved up though I know most vehicles I can't use that much).
If all else fails I'll just have to hope that they continue to offer the new '08 CTS for something similar to their current lease offer or better ($299/month for 36 months w/ ~1900 down). If I can use 2000 GM card points then I'd get out of there w/ 15k miles a year, zero down, and taxes and fees for likely ~$325/month or so.

Now what if I not only mis-read the guy, but went so far as to ask a loaded/smart-*** rhetorical question based on that mis-read? Yep, then I'd look pretty stupid. If I was going to go out of my way to critisize or say something uncalled for to the guy then I'd make damn sure what I was saying was based on what he actually said.

In this context, no harm no foul.

Except for the fact that it's now 100% confirmed you're swinging wildly from my nuts and enjoying it very much so. Keep trying, you might be the first one in the history of the board to make my ignore list.

Re: New incentives starting 7/19?

ricoZg: Are you aware that you can currently get 0% financing on just about any 2006 vehicle?

I would be VERY surprised for them to bring back the employee pricing AND offer 0% financing, like Chrysler currently is. But I honestly have no idea what is coming. I hope it isn't anything extreme, because GM is trying to get away from the big incentive game...

By the way, are you saying your credit union is offering a low enough rate that you can take the current rebate (instead of the 0% from GMAC) and have the payment lower by $8.00/month (than it would be if you took no rebate but got 0%)? Also, I hope you are not paying MSRP for the vehicle. Perhaps there is less room to wiggle on the HHR, which is selling strongly, but the Colorado should be obtainable for not too much above invoice, I would think.

Re: New incentives starting 7/19?

I just realized that the price increase could be due to the new engines the Colorado has for '07.

2.9L I-4 185hp/190tq

3.7L I-5 242hp/242tq

Right now there's 2.9% financing for the Colorado and 1.9% financing for the HHR. No, I'm not paying MSRP.

If I took the 2.9%, I wouldn't get the cash allowance. So for 5 yrs. my payments would be $444.02

If I took the cash allowance ($2,500) and my credit unions 5.25%, for 5 years my payments would be $419.17.

If I they had 0% financing, $0 cash allowance, for 5 years the payments would be $412.86.

So after the 5 years, with my 5.25% I would have paid $25150.20 compared to the 0%'s $24771.73. A difference of $378.47.

I just don't see the point of trying to get approved with GMAC just to save around $75 a year. Hmmm...I think I may have just answered my original questions.

Re: New incentives starting 7/19?

Hmm, I was thinking that the "72 hour sale" 0% rates had been extended from 7/5 to 7/18. But a quick check of the Chevy site gives the rates you listed. Sorry for the confusion.

Good luck either way!
