I hadn't seen this mentioned on here yet so hopefully it's not a repost. Making the announcement in the weeks leading up to SEMA seems more plausible than many of the other predictions I've read. Maybe the general is using this time to get a production version ready to make a debut.
Blue89Bird 07-12-2006, 02:06 PM MAN!!!!!!!!! I wasn't going to go this year, but if its the official announcement, I may have to.
Bert02SS 07-12-2006, 02:13 PM Perhaps this rumor will prove to be true.
CamaroFan1718 07-12-2006, 02:30 PM Interesting to see the 3 big brands work together when soon later there gona be killing eachother in the market. Very interesting though.
94zchick 07-12-2006, 03:39 PM Are you freakin kidding me?!?!?! I have never been to SEMA let alone Vegas and this year I'm actually going the weekend of the NHRA National Event at LVMS and will be in town until Nov 1st. I may have to take time out of my busy gambling schedule to stop over at SEMA. :D
Now how hard is it going to be to convince the boyfriend??? ;)

That is becuase the big 3 are getting hurt by everyone else. The best thing they can do is ban together and defeat the Japanese and German invaders. :D
number77 07-12-2006, 04:06 PM Smart move. They are bringing all of their cars together, so that when people see them, instead of saying "look at that Camaro" "check out that Challenger" "Wow look at that Mustang" etc. They will say "look at that American muscle."
Its a good way to promote nationalistic feelings. Now only if they do it to the tune of STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER, and have all three cars peeling out, one with standard tires, and the other two with those new tires that make red and blue smoke.
:usa:
hrmm... my wifes been wanting to go to vegas.
Sema here we come! hehe
Chrome383Z 07-12-2006, 04:55 PM 600hp,(rolls eyes)…so what if they do!. Gm has ALWAYS had better engines than ford all they have to do it drop the the LS9 in the camaro which is the "supercharged 427" whats ford got on that?
While I think we all here know that the LS9 isn't going to be a Blown LS7 and maybe not even "LS9"; but to think of a Blown LS7 is just insane. heh
Although, if I recall the Cylinders are too thin and couldn't handle the blower correct?
jg95z28 07-12-2006, 05:17 PM Read it again gang... they're suggesting the announcement will come "ahead" of SEMA, meaning before the event. :D

Was this not suggested in the title by the use of "Pre-SEMA" as in "before-SEMA"
I think everyone is hoping that GM would have a production version at the show, which is why they would want to be there.
CamaroFan1718 07-12-2006, 06:20 PM We just gota hope its not another rumor and actually something GM said and will do to make us all happy.

You seemed clear on that.

Not likely.
If it is going to be released next spring/summer as a 2008 model, then there is a remote possibility. However, I think even if that were the case, the 2007 Detroit Auto Show would be a more logical place to unveil the production version.
I'm guessing were still a year away from seeing the production version... however an announcement could come much sooner than that. ;)
FWIW, the 40th anniversary of the Camaro is this September. :D

Just don't forget that until January 8th, all the 5th gen was to the general public was a rumor. And boy, did it make us happy :)
DvBoard 07-12-2006, 09:15 PM I hope to hear something soon. I need to figure out finances and how i can pull off getting one of these things :D.

it's not that hard to get legit tickets to SEMA. And you don't need to be part of the industry, you just need to know how to work it so they think you do. ;)
White Light 07-13-2006, 01:26 PM so me as a regular person will not be able to get in to sema?
Diognes56 07-13-2006, 01:32 PM so me as a regular person will not be able to get in to sema?
Nope :( .
It would be awsome if they made the announcement around SEMA though, I hope this turns out to be true :D .

SEMA has always been closed to the general public.

No my brother in law & about several other members of our Camaro club were allowed to go because we were part of the Car club Council which was part of SEMA. Anyone who belong to a car club which belonged to the Council can go to SEMA. but thats not the case anylonger. As of Last year they closed it down & no longer allowing members of Car club Councils to come to SEMA

It's a trade show, theoretically open to the trade. Apparently they made an exception for Car Clubs, but I guess they eliminated that exception.
It makes sense to close it to the public. SEMA Trade show booths cost quite a bit of money. The booth prices for shows vary depending upon expected foot traffic. If the hall is flooded with people who have no intention of purchasing items in quantity, the effect of exhibiting in the show (and thus the return on the exhibitor's investment) can be diluted.
That being said, it doesn't appear to be all that hard to get tickets. Seems like all you need is a business card and an ID to get in. With computers these days, that should be a snap.
:)
SFireGT98 07-14-2006, 05:55 PM Despite the differences among the hardcore fans, I gotta say its pretty cool to see pictures of the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger sitting together. Seems like they're stealing the show everywhere they go, even SEMA! :D
guionM 07-15-2006, 02:33 PM I would doubt that GM would announce the Camaro ahead of the next Detroit show in January. The industry traditionally makes it's production announcements during that January to May timeframe.
Not saying it won't happen, just that it would be outside the norm. Plus, SEMA is the event manufacturers use to show or announce versions of existing or new cars, not all new vehicles or production announcements.

With press I think you also have to submit a copy of an article you wrote, so I think there's probally a little more involved than just a business card.
