burn outsCamster44 07-11-2006, 03:44 PM hey how would you burn out with a automatic? i have a 3.4 btw. ninety4camaro 07-11-2006, 09:57 PM break and gas....i know some people that do neutral slams pinball-1 07-11-2006, 11:06 PM I've got an auto V6, but mine is a 3.8L with a few minor mods. I can do burnouts without any brake. I left about a 10' mark down my road this afternoon. Tru2Chevy 07-12-2006, 02:48 PM A neutral slam, or neutral drop, will end up detroying your trans, and you will prolly destroy several rear trans mounts in the process. If you must perform a bit of a smoke show, you'll wanna hit the brakes lightly, and then drop your right foot to the floor. When I first got my '85 2.8/700R4 car I used to do that all the time. - Justin ninety4camaro 07-12-2006, 03:05 PM yeah neutral slams and hell on the transmission. a friend of mine has a 80 something mustang and likes to go street racing and some of his idiot friends told him to do neutral slams off the line when hes racing. i told him dont do it but he didnt listen and he won the race but when he went to park he couldnt get the car to go into reverse. he did a few burnouts and donuts and he hasnt had anymore trans problems since EdkicMedkic 07-17-2006, 10:05 PM I did a couple of times neutral drops,I was going like 35mph then put in neutral little gas then back in drive.the tires would chirp:D .thats in my 3.4 James Montigny 07-19-2006, 04:21 PM Hold the break pedal in and slam the gas while in D Rear brakes will let the tires spin while the fronts keep you in one place. Make a big cloud and some black marks. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e146/jmontign/Recovered_JPEG_2873.jpg If you have enough TQ (or a high enough gear ratio) you can peel out while in gear. With a firm tranny and enough TQ, you can chirp into 2nd and 3rd too :) Either is fun :D Don't expect tires to last long if you keep doing it though LOL scott5 07-19-2006, 05:33 PM just hit the brake and cmash teh gas then when you get some smoke barely let off the brake and then you will slowly drive down teh road burning some tire. I do have videos of my 93 3.4.. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/camaro+burnout/0/781DC6E1-04D5-4C0D-9F05-9154298A2DFE.htm this one is the first part of a 2 part video.. I feel like keeping my brakes usefull for a lil longer :). Anyway pretty cool, it's always fun to do burnouts on the way out of school. Why does only one side smoke/leave a mark? Is the one tire bald and the one side? Dustin James Montigny 07-19-2006, 11:20 PM Why does only one side smoke/leave a mark? Is the one tire bald and the one side? Non-POSI, Non-locker and Non-LSD (Limited Slip Differential) cars only pin one wheel; It's the way the differential is designed. Cars with POSI, lockers or LSD spin both tires. Limited slip differentials use various mechanisms to allow normal differential action when going around turns. When a wheel slips, they allow more torque to be transferred to the non-slipping wheel. Here's an article "How Differentials Work" http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm Page 7 talked about LSD/POSI, but the whole article is very informative and well written. pinball-1 07-20-2006, 11:49 AM Ya, I guess I didnt think of that. The Z-28's arent like that are they? merlinx31 07-20-2006, 01:46 PM Ya, I guess I didnt think of that. The Z-28's arent like that are they? no, Z28s have LSD, and so do some V6s with Y87 package. James Montigny 07-20-2006, 02:29 PM You can always buy an aftermarket LSD unit, they're not too horribly difficult to install. That was one of the first mods I did on my 95. pinball-1 07-20-2006, 09:41 PM How can you tell if a car (my car) has the Y87 package? I have almost every option on my car that I know of: power seats, power windows, power mirrors, 2nd gear start, t-tops, bose sound system, and probably more that I dont know of. James Montigny 07-20-2006, 09:47 PM How can you tell if a car (my car) has the Y87 package? I have almost every option on my car that I know of: power seats, power windows, power mirrors, 2nd gear start, t-tops, bose sound system, and probably more that I dont know of. Easy way : Check the RPO codes in your glove box or door jam Fun way: Nail the gas and see how many stripes you lay down :) RPO Codes (I know there's a better list around here somewhere) http://www.firehawkowners.com/rpo/gm.html scott5 07-20-2006, 10:06 PM i say mail the gas and accidentally have your foot on the brake as well, but that is just me.. I liked buying tires.. LOL pinball-1 07-20-2006, 11:17 PM I checked the codes in my glove box and the only "g--" on my car is a GU4, which is not listed on the list. I dont have the "G80" code in my glove box, which is the slip rear alxe. I have done burnouts before but never go back to look at them, except once which was not a very good one. So I really cant tell by that yet...maybe I'll have to give that brake a lil tap tommorow at work and take a look, hehe. Hopefully both tires spin..... pinball-1 07-20-2006, 11:35 PM I checked all my RPO codes on camarosource and they didnt turn anything up about a slip differential. Only thing I found out is that I have a 3.08 gear ratio (I dont know much about gear ratios, but I dont think its good, haha) FunkZ 07-20-2006, 11:36 PM GU4 is a 3.08 ratio If you don't have G80 you're spinning one wheel. James Montigny 07-21-2006, 08:54 AM Most 4th gens came with 2.73, 3.08 or 3.23 gears. (numerically) Higher gear ratios mean that the driveshaft turns more times per wheel rotation. So (numerically) higher ratios make you rip through gears faster accelerate faster. At the same time that means you are at a higher RPM at any given speed and are burning more fuel. I've run 3.73s in my 3.4 and my 5.7. They are awesome. Just be sure to have them installed by a pro or they whine line a banshee. Play with this calculator :) http://www.f-body.org/gears/ coburnaburna 07-25-2006, 04:42 AM hey how would you burn out with a automatic? i have a 3.4 btw. that might be the dumbest question ive ever seen. James Montigny 07-25-2006, 07:24 AM that might be the dumbest question ive ever seen.Followed by the rudest answer. With the car in 3 or OD; Hold the brake with your left and mash the gas with your right. Slowly let off the brake and let the car roll forward to make a nice long burnout. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y204/cherished75/engine.jpg Hold it down longer tomake a huge smoke cloud on the spot. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/5/web/2297000-2297999/2297778_3_full.jpg FAIR WARNING: Do it long enough and you will wear the tire down so far it will explode. pinball-1 07-25-2006, 10:23 AM You put it in OD? I've never tryed that.... James Montigny 07-25-2006, 10:32 AM You put it in OD? I've never tryed that.... Shouldn't matter much, if any. I think on the 700R4 and 4L60 (not E) ended up with more line pressure when you left it in 3. The goal is just to have the car (or wheels in this case) accelerate while keeping it in one place. The front brakes hold the car from moving. | ||
