Why do cheap cars HAVE to be ugly? Do good looking plastic molds cost more? If GM can only make this thing look good, it'd sell like hotcakes.

Chevy Aveo, ugly then...number77 07-08-2006, 06:16 PM Why do cheap cars HAVE to be ugly? Do good looking plastic molds cost more? If GM can only make this thing look good, it'd sell like hotcakes. unvc92camarors 07-08-2006, 06:29 PM Part of the reason is they are small and have a high roofline to allow more headroom. The necessary proportions for a small car are not condusive to looking good. number77 07-08-2006, 06:50 PM I completely disagree. The 2007 models look 10x better than the ones before them. But it still isn't what it could be. number77 07-08-2006, 06:56 PM 2005 Aveo http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/673/403chevyaveo7td.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Possible upcoming Aveo. http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/4619/chevroletaveobeastieforum1800x.jpg (http://imageshack.us) The new one looks almost as good as the Corolla. It needs wheels at least 1 inch bigger. I still think it could look better...but I think this will be GM's number 1 selling car if they can market it right. scott9050 07-08-2006, 08:54 PM It's still ugly. One word.....Daewoo. Gloveperson 07-08-2006, 09:30 PM The Honda Fit is worlds ahead of the current Avea IMHO; Chevy really needs to get this car better if it wants to compete. Good Ph.D 07-08-2006, 10:13 PM Reviews I read of it said it was actually less refined then the Aveo in addition to costing more. 91_z28_4me 07-08-2006, 10:43 PM Reviews I read of it said it was actually less refined then the Aveo in addition to costing more. But it does get better gas mileage than the Aveo, something I would assume would be paramount in this class (though sales do not show it to be that way). scott9050 07-09-2006, 12:41 AM Reviews I read of it said it was actually less refined then the Aveo in addition to costing more. The last review I saw of the Fit had it ranking #1 by a wide margin over the competition. R377 07-09-2006, 12:45 AM The last review I saw of the Fit had it ranking #1 by a wide margin over the competition. Everything I've read about the Fit indicates it's a very well done small car too. Remember it's priced well above an Aveo as well. Bob Cosby 07-09-2006, 12:53 AM Reviews that say a car's "Fit" is best in class isn't going to sell many cars. Good lucks, performance (be it gas mileage, acceleration, ability to carry stuff, whatever), good ergonomics, and value will sell cars. That thing got whacked real hard by the ugly truck, IMO. number77 07-09-2006, 12:59 AM Reviews that say a car's "Fit" is best in class isn't going to sell many cars. But can you believe that the one above is a 2005 model!?....2005!!!! MarineReconZ28 07-09-2006, 09:15 AM I think its ugly because it was made for the overseas market and thats what the overseas market likes, ugly. Go to japan and look at what slaes over there. Everything is a box of ugliness. Its almost like they dont care at all about looks when they buy cars under $20k. But the more I get used to my car, I think it would look pretty good with some 17's on it. :p unvc92camarors 07-09-2006, 09:24 AM I think its ugly because it was made for the overseas market and thats what the overseas market likes, ugly. JMHO. I would exclude Nissan though as they have some pretty flashy designs for grocery getters, and atleast carry a sportscar. Threxx 07-09-2006, 10:09 AM Reviews I read of it said it was actually less refined then the Aveo in addition to costing more. The Fit is less refined than the Aveo? What review was this? Link. I'm just surprised because I've read several reviews with such comparison and every one of them said the Fit was way ahead of the pack - way ahead of the Yaris, too. It's selling really well though; I have been seeing a lot of them around here. Due to that, I went for a test drive and out of the three Honda dealers around here, one had two, one had one and the other had a waiting list. The car is more expensive than the Aveo. It is worth every penny of it and I think that the price will be less (or at least closer) when taking into total value of the car (resale and the large difference in MPG) EllwynX 07-09-2006, 09:04 PM The Honda Fit is worlds ahead of the current Avea IMHO; Chevy really needs to get this car better if it wants to compete. The 2007 Aveo is nice looking. Much better looking than the Fit. The 2004-2006 Aveo isn't the greatest looking car (trust me, I drive one and admit it LOL) though. The only foreign small car that is a little more attractive is the Yaris. PS- AveO not AveA... OutsiderIROC-Z 07-09-2006, 09:05 PM I think I'd walk before I'd drive an Aveo.... toneloc12345 07-10-2006, 05:54 AM doesn't the Fit start out at like 14 or 15k? Aveo starts out at like 9K..... I would have to agree that the 2007 aveo looks way better. scott9050 07-10-2006, 07:11 AM doesn't the Fit start out at like 14 or 15k? Aveo starts out at like 9K..... I would have to agree that the 2007 aveo looks way better. The Fit starts at $13,850. I've seen quite a few Aveo's over $14,000 sticker, just looked yesterday. The Fit is already an established hit in over 40 countries, the fact that it is in the spirit of the old CRX is bound to attract the younger crowd who likes that sort of thing. Threxx 07-10-2006, 08:15 AM doesn't the Fit start out at like 14 or 15k? Aveo starts out at like 9K..... I would have to agree that the 2007 aveo looks way better. The Fit starts at 13,850. but it comes loaded with everything except the 'sport' package, and the automatic trans, by default. The Aveo starts at 9,350 Guess what happens to the Aveo's price if you equip it as similarly as you can to the Fit? 13,575. And that's still missing a few things that just aren't available on the Aveo like front and rear side curtain airbags, power side mirrors, 16" wheels, etc.. Darth Xed 07-10-2006, 08:26 AM I don't think I've ever seen a car this small look good from any manufacturer. I think the overall size makes it almost impossible to have proportions that don't make it look like a wind-up toy car. This includes the Mini Cooper. I think it's goofy looking too. Z28x 07-10-2006, 08:27 AM And that's still missing a few things that just aren't available on the Aveo like front and rear side curtain airbags, power side mirrors, 16" wheels, etc.. 2007 will fix that. What the Aveo needs is a better engine. Where's the Ecotec? This car should be getting 40mpg with a 1.4L Ecotec EllwynX 07-10-2006, 08:42 PM The Fit starts at 13,850. but it comes loaded with everything except the 'sport' package, and the automatic trans, by default. But my '05 does have 1 power side mirror (the passenger). The driver's mirror is still manual (I assume because the passenger is a pain to adjust manually while the drivers' isn't). I can only assume the '07's will either have the 1 power or both. MarineReconZ28 07-10-2006, 11:43 PM I think I'd walk before I'd drive an Aveo.... I will drive my aveo 200+ miles everyday before I walk to work. And Im not ashamed of it one bit. Kinda like it a little bit. Threxx 07-11-2006, 07:52 AM 2007 will fix that. According to the website I performed the comparison at this was both for 2007 models... but who knows... | ||
