mr00jimbo 07-07-2006, 07:48 PM Though emissions are getting stricter, diesel engines are "getting with the times"
They're awsome!
Imagine, a diesel Hummer H3 would be AWSOME; way more power, longer-lasting engine, low end, it could tow a lot more.
Diesel Jeep GC would be great, diesel Envoy, Suburban, diesel 4runner, FJ Cruiser
Whadya think? They can get better mileage, tow way better, and last longer...so why not?

Wait and see what their performance and cost are when they actually meet the California emission standards.
The Dodge Ram engine for 2007 goes from 5.9 to 6.7 liters and actually loses a bit of horsepower, due to 2007 truck emission standards.
Clean97Z 07-07-2006, 08:03 PM I agree completely!!! My wife and I love our Jetta TDI. I think it would be really cool to see a 1/2 ton Silverado achieve 25mpg in average driving. Plus, ULSD is coming online to help with the emissions.

That Jetta is too dirty to be sold in CA, NY, MA, ME, and VT. ULSD is not enough to clean it up. It's going to need some sort of NOx adsorber or urea injection. It's also too dirty for 2007 all over the country, which is why there won't be any 2007 model diesel Jettas.

The diesel Jeep GC with the blutec motor starts production for NA in the first quarter of 2007.
mr00jimbo 07-08-2006, 01:29 PM So then GM should put a diesel in the H3!
0toinsanein5.4sec 07-08-2006, 01:54 PM i say there should definately be more diesels in america. small cars too

See? Sweet car eh? Fast and 40 mpg!
A 4.0 I6 turbo diesel in the H3, I'm telling you guys, would KICK ASS!
Pandamonkey 07-08-2006, 05:59 PM I've been saying this for years.
Trouble is - oil companies do not want diesels in our gas dependant north america. :(
Think about the next step - Diesel Hybrids.
Hybrids deliver fantastic economy town but don't shine on the highway.
Diesels are gold on the highway and not as good in town.
Combine those........and WOW!

Would you take a 3.0L V6 diesel H3? How about a 4.9L V6 based on the Duaramax for the Tahoe/H2 gen II?
If so then just wait, they are coming

Sure, but these are problems that can be fixed and will be fixed. VW will be back in 2008 meeting the emission requirements. Diesel is still the way to go.

Assuming that emission laws aren't tightened again . . . . Even with the new technologies, the diesels will be in the high bins.
The environmentalists are the ones keeping diesels out now.
mr00jimbo 07-10-2006, 05:12 PM Opel (GM's Euro arm) took an diesel Opel GT race car around the track at a consistant 120 mph and averaged something like 94 mpg!!! :alert:
Why don't they build it?!
Diesel trucks are way better too!

And don't forget what won the 24 hrs of LeMans this year.
