I've seen a lot of bad comments regarding this possible merger on this site. Am I the only one who thinks this would actually be a good idea?
A merger with Nissan/Renault would help GM immensely. Shared technology, shared ideas between executives, etc. etc. would benefit both companies, and help keep GM afloat.
Most of the negativity I've seen is because Renault and Nissan are French and Japanese brands, respectively. However, in today's global market, the lines of nationality are blurred. GM already has companies under it's wing overseas, so this merger wouldn't be anything new on that front. Besides, Nissan/Renault would be better partners than say, Daewoo or Suzuki.

FWIW when i was in Europe, GM had captured lots of the market under diff. brands. Lots of Isuzus, Daewoos, Opels, etc. and the other cars were Renaults sooo
grossesexy 07-07-2006, 02:42 PM It's not a good thing in pretty much any way for GM.
Dave 96TA 07-07-2006, 03:46 PM Any change for GM could have positive results. If it doesn't work out, they cut loose. If it does work out, consumers benefit.
This is not to say that GM employees aren't facing a scary situation, however.

Imagine a LeCar/f-body platform. They could call it LeCamaro. lol

SCNGENNFTHGEN 07-07-2006, 07:08 PM My grandmother had a renalt, and let me say, it was the biggest POS I ever had the displeasure of working on, that is next to a nison. Someone please wake me from this sick friggin' nightmare. I feel like I can't read another word about this disgusting bastardization of gm, but yet I can't help myself.

Shared ideas between executives? If this ever happened the other companies would take over GM.

So far yes, unless someone points out a benefit I havent seen yet

Those are companies under GM's wing. GM would be under Nissans wing to some degree. Its one of two American companies left and with Fords exploding tires, exploding Pintos and firehazzard ignitions they should be in the business of demolition.

sooo
Behold... The $70,000 350HP Camaro!

Granny bought a POS...how does this relate to zero Nissans being frenchie platforms in the US and the fact that you have no better ideas for GM?
Besides, the bad omen is that Chevrolet is a Frenchie name, as is Camaro, Caprice, Corsica, et al....not that anybody thought Chevrolet was really as American as apple pie, of course. This is a better forum than that.
As much as I'd root for GM to pull itself out of this hole, I see zero product these days I'd consider walking onto a stealership lot and buying as do many others see the same way.
Find me a Z71 Crew Cab 4x4 with an I4 turbodiesel (Isuzu sourced, thank you) in it and we may talk.
Gloveperson 07-07-2006, 10:46 PM I've driven a new Renault, wasn't all that bad. No idea what model it was except it was small, slow, ugly and a stick (like most of the cars on the road in Europe)
