I've been looking at both lately. The camaro was pretty sweet at first, but the new challenger is really growing on me! I don't know, I think I might like the challenger better. I want to get one or the other when they come out, definately my next new car.
Am i nuts?? Should I stick with the bowtie or go mopar
I have to checkem both out one day in person, they are both sweet cars though!
440hp stock on the challenger, wow, I'd just throw in an exhaust and cold air, call it a day!

Buy the car you like. If the Challenger is better, by all means, buy it.
flatlander757 07-06-2006, 07:51 PM Working for Dodge... I REALLY want one:D
I'm glad it finally got the "go-ahead" to be produced:)
I want one in Plum Crazy Purple:p

At this point the only thing that should be influencing your descision is looks, release date and, oh yeah size :D
Challenger in relation to Camaro concepts. Both cars look MUCH better in person but its all in what you want. Check them out in person for yourself and see what you like. As far as the drive trains its too early to tell which has more HP. Then again dimensions for both cars can change as well :)

SubSolar0 07-06-2006, 09:12 PM They're both nice and better looking than the new Mustangs, in my opinion. Older people seem to like the Challenger better, younger people the Camaro. I'll be buying the Camaro; one because I'm a GM fan and two because the Challenger is going to be 4100 pounds.
CamaroWishing 07-06-2006, 09:55 PM Camaro all the way, because it looks sweeter then hell! The Challenger has that relaxed look, and the Camaro is in your face. As my slogan said, " Camaro, redefines the word BADA**."
geeingu 07-06-2006, 10:21 PM one thing i do like on the challenger is the interior much better then the camaro

I doubt the production Camaro's interior will be anything close to the concept's. Same with wheel size.

CamaroSS30thAnn 07-07-2006, 01:05 AM im nto sure the camaros weight but the challenger coming in at above 4100lbs
eeek man , idk ,
it looks great but its a pig
93Phoenix 07-07-2006, 01:18 AM Eww 13 second 1/4 for a car with 425hp and 420 lbs torque.
guionM 07-07-2006, 01:58 AM The Challenger should be considered in the same catagory as the Monte Carlo instead of the Camaro, though I know I'm on the losing end of that debate.
The next Camaro will be on a shortened version of the Zeta, while GTO and the Monte Carlo/Chevelle/'whatever-Chevy-calls-it' will be a larger coupe. The Challenger will be on a larger chassis than the Mustang & Camaro as well, and will have a bit more room than the 2 pony cars.
I know being a RWD V8 coupe, and the fact that probally a majority of the people here are too young to remember or weren't alive when 2 doors and RWD existed on more than one size of car, and the group that sees everything V8 and 2 doors through Camaro-like eyes will see the Challenger as a Camaro competitor. After all, it seems every car rag is doing it.
Speaking of car rags, and Challenger, there is a side bar in the August 2006 Motor Trend (I think) where one of Challenger's designers talks about what differences are going vto need to be made for the production version. What's facinating about it is not that he's talking about changes need to be done for the production version, but that this article was probally written back in April... the Challenger's production schedule was just made public last Saturday. I know one person refuses to believe it, and will continue to call BS, but before the end of next year, you'll see them on the streets.
FWIW: the changes he mentioned (as I remember) is a higher front bumper, less tuck under on the body work, & a couple of other changes. The roofline & height isn't going to change, and the full width tail light (and high trunk liftover height) is going to make it to production.
grossesexy 07-07-2006, 03:16 AM and the full width tail light (and high trunk liftover height) is going to make it to production.
Ewwww, gross. I cannot stand full width tail lights like the Challenger concept has. Make it more like the Chargers had with the
slimmer middle but a solid tail light? That just isn't any fun.

That in my humble opinion is a lot better looking(maybe not in that picture heh) than one solid bar.

I thought the next GTO was supposed to be based on the Zeta platform too? I agree things are different than in the 60's/70's. The Challenger was the same size as the Mustang and Camaro and the GTO and Charger were the same. Today they're all based on the same platforms.
MissedShift 07-07-2006, 03:47 AM (and high trunk liftover height)
Not being a woman, nor a man whos arms resemble a woman's, I fail to see an issue with this. :p
Honestly, more cars need to bring this back. I personally think that the move to have suck ridiculously low liftover heights has cost vehicle styling dearly. Sure, on something like an Impala, or a Civic, it might be a factor in a purchasing descision, but I think many other genres of cars could be significantly more attractive if marketing could let go of this liftover height spec. It certainly limits options in terms of rear-end design.
SSbaby 07-07-2006, 04:27 AM Gee, the Dodge is HUUUGE compared to the Camaro concept!!! I'd even say the Camaro is almost nimble in comparison!
The Camaro will be lighter, faster, less expensive, and not as retro as the Challenger.
Both are cool cars, but I'd take the Camaro. I love its A&S modern muscle car look. Challenger is more of a GTO type car.
Hard to say at this point which is greater. We will have to see until we get production models. If the Challenger is built off of the LX platform, and weighs 4000+, it will need every bit of the 6.1 to be competitive. If it has the 392 rated at 500 hp, it will be a Shelby killer. But, if GM puts an LS7 into a car that weighs less than 3800 lb, then game over for DCX and Ford.
ChrisUlrich 07-07-2006, 11:31 PM The Challenger is really going to weigh that much you think?! Jesus! Originally I heard they were dropping it to 3600lbs!
Think the Camaro is going to gain weight too? Even though they focused so much on the Vette to be lighter? That would suck :-/

I expect Camaro to weigh in close to Mustang. They could lighten it like the Vette, but you would be paying Vette prices for Vette materials in Camaro.
Good Ph.D 07-08-2006, 10:30 AM My feelings change on the styling of the Challenger daily...
But what I need to know is, if its going to get the 5.7, as thats the only way I see it meeting its target.
White Light 07-08-2006, 11:59 AM go for the camaro. . . if the decision is ever made to make the car
2lane69 07-14-2006, 04:18 PM Regardless of how much I do like the looks of the Challenger, its still a Dodge after all....need I say more?
