Dwarf Killer 07-01-2006, 09:28 AM We all know how important a good sales slogan is. Simple phrases that stick in people's minds for years to come. Examples include "See the USA in your Chevrolet" to Harley Davidson's "Ride The Great American Freedom Machine" to Toyota's "Oh what a feeling". Feel-good phrases that symbolize the product as a way of life, that give the owner a sense of identity, belonging or accomplishment.
Love them or hate them, catch-phrases and slogans work.
What should the new Camaro's slogan be? Post some up. Not too good at this myself. It's hard.
"Camaro never lets you forget your youth."
"The car that taught you how to win is back."
"Get a first place start in life, get the new Camaro."
"Every winner has owned a Camaro, and every winner will own one again."
"Your car, your generation, your Camaro."
"Race into the new world."
"The Line Has Been Re-made."
"All show. All go."

Camaro---Hot to Trot
A picture or commercial would have a Camaro out front of a pack of wannabe competitors (think trotting horse race).
Camaro---Get a little action
A convertible with a hot looking gal next to an ordinary looking male driver. A competitor pulls next to it at a traffic light and throws a puny rev. The Camaro returns a huge growl.
Camaro---
A 20-22 year-old is thumbing through a book while standing next to a new Camaro. Slams the book shut and pitches it in the passenger seat. Quick zoom on the book. It is a dictionary. Pull back to the Camaro then---
Camaro, no words to describe it.

Then of course a hot lady gets out of the car and walks past them

"Tired of the same old scenery jump in a new Camaro and put it behind you"
The above line would show a sea of magnums, chargers, Mustang's and imports and then pan out to see a new RED Camaro with a young man/woman looking in the rearview mirror as the camaro speed's away from the other cars and leaves them in a blur.
"The new Camaro for driver's that command more muscle"

competition's highest mark introducing the new Camaro"
" Think fast, or else you may never get a hold on a legend to be recon'd

"Burnt rubber never smelled so great" - The new Camaro
two solid black burnout marks still smoking, then a quick shot of the rear of the new Camaro
" Intimidation is only the begining"- The new Camaro
A quick shot of the front of a new Black Camaro with only the running light's on a dimly lit street corner
" The sound of intimidation"- The new Camaro
A quick 3/4 front then a shot w/ a zoom to the rear highlighting the dual exhaust and then a deep growl from the new Camaro.

Had to add a little to it. Also, as a throwback to the "Chevy, We'll be there" campaign that they had a while back, you could have the following in a commercial:
Picture the camera panning up a lonely dragstrip from the finish lines, to the staging lanes. It pans over the pit area....still empty. A rumble is heard in the distance, and a Camaro roars into camera view, and pulls into the staging lanes. Camera turns & pans over the car, ending up directly in front of the car, with it's engine revving. Slogan would then read "Chevrolet: We're here....but where are they ?", as the Camaro speeds off down the track.
Vettenut97 07-03-2006, 12:41 PM Just thought of another one. I happened to see the Challenger page, on Dodge's website. They display the "It's on" logo up there very bold. How about this for the Camaro?

Okay, i think we should take your commercial idea, and stick my slogan "Camaro, because every revolution needs a hero" in there. GM would make many millions
or maybe even "Camaro, because revolutions make legends"
I really like the camaro against an American flag idea, and i REALLY like the opening day of the car to be July 4th. Would be a great marketing strategy to nab some impulse buyers who go to see the movie.
Who knows, maybe they will officially announce the Camaro approval during this July 4th week. This would help keep the idea fresh because they can play off of an emotion that doesn't dry up over time; patriotism.

Rob V 08-03-2006, 07:46 PM Rob V for president!
Canadian, sorry, can't be president, but thanks. I think this thread and the collective ideas shared here gives us a bit of an idea in regards to ads we could potentially see, especially since we know Scott (and probably other GM insiders) have read the possibilities here.
As for slogans, unfortunately things have to be PC for the masses. As much as some of us chant it, GM can't go outright and scream "Mustang SUCKS!" and they cannot slander their competitors. Slander and libel are against the law and it's poor sportsmanship. "Faster than wild horses and will take on any challenger" is borderline but it doesn't call them down in any way so it could work.
As well, we need to keep the uninformed interested. Things like "pwned" may be applicable to the internet savy, however for the computer illiterate 30 something couple looking to retain their youth and still have room for kids, the presentation needs to pertain to them as well.
I know many of us would love to see slogans we've come up with being chanted by the masses and I'll be the first to applaud the creativity we all have, however we need to keep these things in mind.
But anyhow... Let's hear some more!
EllwynX 08-03-2006, 08:05 PM As well, we need to keep the uninformed interested. Things like "pwned" may be applicable to the internet savy, however for the computer illiterate 30 something couple looking to retain their youth and still have room for kids, the presentation needs to pertain to them as well.
What DOES 'pwned' mean anyway!?!?!? Other than apparently meaning 'owned' I don't get why it has a 'p' instead of an 'o'.

Thanks for the explanation...
Tad bit silly, but at least I get it now. lol
LandonElf 08-04-2006, 11:18 AM Wikipedia didn't mention this, but i think it also was coined when people repeatedly mistyped "owned" by accidentally hitting the "P" key which is right next to the "O" key.
Ya know, kind of like "teh" or "pron"
graham 08-04-2006, 11:47 AM Did wikipedia make mention of the video game script error that got it all started? I dont remember which game, but when you defeated the bad guy "Owned" was supposed to show on the screen but instead it was misspelled as "pwned"

Lol, really? I'm an avid gamer but have never heard that before. Its entirely possible though with some of the crap thats hitting shelves nowadays.
HAZ-Matt 08-05-2006, 08:55 AM I always heard that it really cought on in Doom 2 deathmatch for some reason, and that it was short for 'pistol owned', since that was the lousiest weapon in the game.
Dwarf Killer 08-05-2006, 10:25 AM This one gets my vote..as long as its true..:D
Yeah, but it should be:
Three words:
You lose Again.
Dwarf Killer 08-05-2006, 10:26 AM Rob V for president!
I should get that "hero" slogan copyrighted.......
It's a winner man. Sell it to GM for the first SS Camaro off the line. :D
thesoundandthefury 08-05-2006, 12:43 PM To a certain demographic, this slogan will have deeper implications, but for the rest, it can be taken at face value and be just as potent:
"Born again...hard."
bigsjk 08-06-2006, 03:52 AM "Sinful...but we're sure God will forgive you."
Use this in a commercial with a catholic preist leaving (burning rubber actually) church after sunday mass
too much?
bigsjk 08-06-2006, 03:57 AM "Camaro...compensating for life's shortcomings...Mustang, Challenger...well you get the idea!"
bigsjk 08-06-2006, 04:04 AM "Camaro...there's muscle, and then there's muscle!"
Use this in a commercial where an average guy walks to his camaro, parked in front of a bodybuilder club...there is one of those strroid freaks doing a bicep curl in the window and looking at the camaro longingly as the guy drives off.

hope its backed up though! would become terrible advertisment rly fast if it was slower....
"Buy a Camaro, because the Mustang s*cks"
Honestly, I think GM should use this. Marketing classes always say never to mention the competition's name... but let me tell ya, it's time that GM really showed some balls and machismo in the advertising field.
Rob V 08-06-2006, 12:36 PM That may be true but I must reiterate that statements such as that could land GM in trouble. Ford would slap a libel suit on them faster than a Pinto breaks down.
ncsu602 08-08-2006, 08:48 AM Haven't posted in a while, but I can't pass this up....
for a commercial, totally black screen, flash of high beams only showing the front of the car, AC/DCs Back in Black playing in the background. Last shot showing a bowtie and says "coming soon to a track near you" below it.
I miss the bowtie.
"Ford would slap a libel suit on them faster than a Pinto breaks down"
Wow, quote of the year!

96ZED28 08-16-2006, 10:41 AM Ok here is my attempt at advertising. I have read them all over a cup of coffee and they are all great ideas. This would be a tv commercial, goes something like this.
You see a quiet street in a residential, surburban neighbourhood on a beautiful Sunday morning with birds chirping. You see Mustangs, Challengers and imports in their driveways then text across the screen:
FRESH FROM HIBERNATION!
Then off in the distance you would hear a garage door opening, the camera pans over to that house. Then another text across the screen, a line taken from Pearl Harbor:
THE COMPETITON HAS AWAKEN THE GIANT!
You hear the Camaro fire up, in the blackened out garage all you see is the headlights, then you see the dust and dirt that was kicked up from the exhuast swirling out in front of the headlights, the driver revs it a little, slowly makes its way out of the driveway then lets it rip down the street leaving behind double S's, birds flying out of their trees and neighbours running out their front doors in their PJ's to see nothing but taillights, an all too familiar sight. Then another text as the screen fades to black:
CHEVROLET CAMARO - SHOCK AND AWE!
professional driver, do not attempt, closed road course.
No offense guys...but most of these ads are the most corny things I've ever heard, and I'd wager 80% or more of the viewing public would have no idea what you're talking about.
Keep it simple, in lines with what was in the first post.
"Camaro, bash your head into the wall, stomp your teeth out, have sex on the hood, and flip off mustang drivers" doesn't roll off the tongue or stick in your mind as well as successful advertising slogans.
Perhaps I'm missing the scope of this thread. Some of your slogans would be pretty cool to see in a car magazine ad, but for a national ad on TV or something, it's gotta be simple and catchy.
"The Camaro is back; and better than ever."
BitchinCamaro 08-16-2006, 12:17 PM A play on GM's "Then and Now" campaign...
Then: 30 mpg + low emissions = 100 horsepower
Now: 30 mpg + low emissions = 400 horsepower
The all new Camaro, with great power comes great responsibility.
(all right, I stole the last part from Spiderman)
Something like this would help dispel the myth that the Camaro still gets 5 mpg and is a smog machine.
PaintBallR 08-16-2006, 02:22 PM EAT BOWTIE
If not, i like the Evolution or Revolution
bigsjk 08-31-2006, 10:27 PM any more? come on guys, let's get something GM will use!

"There's bad-ass, then there's American bad-ass".

Jason E 09-19-2006, 10:12 AM "Camaro: We gave up on it, you didn't, so we figured what the hell...we'd give it one more shot for sh!ts and giggles..."
:D
In reality? "Camaro: The Heart and Soul of the American Revolution" I like that one :D
I still wish the Heartbeat of America tagline would come back...how many Cavalier Z24s, IROCs, and Chevy pickups from the late '80s and early '90s STILL have Heartbeat of America logos in the back windows...
LuvMyZ 09-28-2006, 06:50 AM ^^^ I like that slogan too. A pic of my engine compartment.

You're pretty atypical for a Canadian -- most of the Canadians I've met are smart.

North America: consisting of Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Central America: Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, and several others

Canada is not part of the United States.

Haven't we had this discussion a number of times in the past.
When the average US citizen say's 'American' they are referring to the US.
Canadians are not American. They're Canadian. Canada is part of the North American continent, but it is not part of 'America' as it is referred to by most people.

Indeed, it seems that the average US citizen is an idiot. I lament the state of things in this country every day.
Nonetheless, most of us (citizens of both Canada and the U.S.) speak English, so when we say that Camaro is "American for muscle", it still works. That was the point, after all. :)

Ryan's LT1 10-01-2006, 07:49 PM Here's one I came up with a while back:
"Camaro. Powered by Raw, Unfiltered Badass."
USA1Camaro 10-01-2006, 11:37 PM I know it's not feasible but what the heck.
The current Mu$tang commercial shows a kid in a whatever it is at a stop light with the Mu$tang. They go on and on about 300hp, blah, blah and the kid shrinks down and turns off instead of leaving at the light. Start the commercial off the same way with the kid turning off and the Camaro pulling up instead. The Mu$tang owner gives that smug look to the Camaro driver. The light turns green and you hear tires squealing and engines revving. You don't see anything else.
Show a time lapse with the smug driver sitting at the same light, the Camaro pulls up and the Mu$tang driver then shrinks in his seat and turns off.
USA1Camaro 10-02-2006, 12:21 AM Seriously, I like "The Evolution of the Revolution"
While playing some catchy music.
Show the First Gen Camaros, in the showroom, driving, Drag racing, Trans Am racing. Sprinkle in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Camaros while flashing pics of the new Camaro stationary, driving, on the track.
Finally end with the Camaro thundering past the camera. Just post the phrase have the announcer say "The Evolution of the Revolution". Fade in the Chevy symbol and the Camaro name.
geeingu 10-02-2006, 09:13 PM "Camaro, Now you can pick up chicks for sex"
kevin1109k 10-03-2006, 10:03 PM The Revolution theme will probably be over by the time the camaro comes back. The will probably use a whole new advertising scheme with the release of the camaro, so something original is in order, unless they go retro with that too.
"The champ of the street is back."
"Camaro, nap time is over."
"Camaro, it missed you too." :advertising for the ladies:
"Camaro, one up on Goodyear."
"Camaro, even Corvette watches its back."
"Camaro, yeah, its still underrated."
"How long are your burnouts?"
:black screen: "It has been caged up," :sound of moderate rev (of course with badass exhaust): "but it has escaped..." :show bowtie:
"Camaro, the definition of muscle car."
"Camaro, its loose."
Abidar 10-03-2006, 10:20 PM Here's a series:
First Commercial:
Have a Camaro driver doing a burnout for a solid minute. They focus on the tire smoke drifting into the darkness, maybe a little lightning flickering in the sky. "The all new Chevy Camaro, a storm is brewing."
Second Commercial:
Have the driver of a Camaro say to the screen, "They say lightning never strikes the same place twice." Have him turn towards a Camaro underneath a huge dark storm. Lightning strikes the car. He runs over and gets in and tries to turn it over as lightning strikes the car again. The car is immediately seen flying over roads, doing burnouts, powerslides, etc... Fade to "The all new Chevrolet Camaro." Quick, 30 second commercial.
Caps94ZODG 10-03-2006, 10:39 PM how bout this...

Sounds good to use it in a ER type situation. See people working behind a curtain.
Doctor calling out "CLEAR!"
The sound of the defib. machine charging/discharging
monitor goes from flatline to a single heartbeat.
The sound of the new Camaro Starting up. idling, Revving.
" The Heartbeat has been revived. "

Interesting choice of screen name. :)
Mjolnir 05-09-2007, 09:15 AM The car that defines American muscle, Chevy camaro.
Nice tag line.
I always wanted to see an ad campaign where a little old lady goes to the dealership and takes a Camaro for a test drive. She gets in, acting all nervous and old-ladyish. Then, there's 15 seconds of power slides, burnouts, strip launches, the works- she just beats the living **** out of the car. At the end she climbs out and tells the salesman "No thanks. I think I need something with more luxury" or maybe "I don't think it rides as smooth as my Lexus" or words to that effect. The whole point would be to illustrate the fact that the Camaro's market isn't little old ladies looking for a Camry or some sort of luxury GT crap. This is a raw muscle car here to kick ass and forget your name. Even the V6 buyers would be geeked.
I would also like to see one like this:
Black screen, white letters saying "Sport" for a couple of seconds, then a fast montage of Camaro's racing and drifting and stuff for a few seconds.
Next comes another black screen with the white word "Utility" for a couple of secs, followed by a quick shot with the camera inside the trunk as a guy sets a single six-pack of Sam Adams and a package of bacon down and slams the trunk lid shut.
The last black screen says "Vehicle" in white letters, and then the rest of the commercial is shots of the Camaro cruising around town and long angle my-space crap so the dealers can edit it to put their stuff in.
4EverCamaro 05-09-2007, 01:58 PM Here are mine:
Camaro, putting you first, keeps the competition last.
Camaro, any questions?
Camaro, what are you waiting for?
Words to the wise, I'M BACK!
Words to the competition, don't get too comfortable.
Camaro, time is up.
91BigRedz28 05-09-2007, 02:46 PM "Bad feels so good."
On the "hero" quote...I like it. BUT- I think the adage goes on to say that "heroes come and go, but legends live forever." I don't think we want to feed Ford a marketing response to the Camaro's debut.
I like GMs "two wishes left" one the most though.

Especially up here in Canada...:D
Mjolnir 05-15-2007, 09:25 AM Okay- I have another idea for a commercial.
GM could rip off the latest McDonalds ad.
It could start out with a two kids (tweenerish aged) screaming and running through a big, expensively furnished home. The kids are yelling "Dad's going to the store!!! Dad's going to the store!!!"
Then the camera cuts to dad while he picks up his keys off of a table.
A woman (his wife) steps out from a side room and says "Aren't you just going to pick up some milk and eggs?"
Dad looks at her, dangle's the keys (GM logo prominently displayed), and says "Yeah, but I'm taking the new Camaro."
Then the camera cuts to a scene of the new Camaro (silver, of course. have to refer back to the concept) pulling out of a big circular driveway into a typical California suburban street. Maybe there could be just the corner of some sort of luxury sedan or SUV at the edge of the picture to just kind of drive home the point that this rich guy chooses to drive a Chevy.
What do you guys think?
RoninZ28 05-17-2007, 04:16 PM So far, my favorites are:

The car speaks for itself, but with some edgy advertising, people will be even more interested. Nothing boring or tame fun like the Mazda "Zoom" commercials. Those are cute, but we need some aggression here.

Mikes25thAnnTA 06-01-2007, 11:54 PM Well.. I guess you'd have to have the new Ozzy CD (or go download the song... :p ) to know what I'm talking about, but I think "Not Going Away" (song #1) on Black Rain would be a great background song for the new Camaro commercial.
Here's a link to the lyrics, but you really have to hear the song. (http://gurbi.blogspot.com/2007/05/lyrics-not-going-away-by-ozzy-osbourne.html)
Or maybe just the chorus once at the beginning from "I Don't Wanna Stop" with just the instrumental playing in the background for the rest of the commercial while they showed someone driving the hell out of it and maybe saying a few words at the end.
"Camaro, faster than wild horses and will take on any challenger"
Still love that one though... but I'd make a very slight change...
"Camaro, faster than wild horses and willing to take on any challenger."
Chevycobb 06-02-2007, 11:46 AM It would obviously have the production camaro, but I think this would be good for a magazine ad.

Shockwave 06-02-2007, 12:42 PM I like the idea of "Bad to the Bone" playing as a shiny, black Camaro Z28 slowly rolls past the camera. Then voiced over...
"Your best friend just got out of jail...and he wants to party."
And maybe a burnout as the car tears off. :D
Shockwave 06-02-2007, 01:42 PM Other ideas...
"Camaro -- For guys who go fast and girls who kick ass."
(Or if GM's not comfortable saying "ass", you could do a "For guys who go fast and girls who kick--well, you get the idea.")
I also like the idea of some shots of a tough camaro starting up and driving around as Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" plays.

(with sissy French music playing in the background)
In France, the definition of Camaro is "friend" or "companion"
(switch to some rock music)
In the U.S., the definition is Efficient destroyer of competition. To annihilate competitors with great force. To publicly humiliate others by force. To smite down with vengeful authority.
It can be your friend, or your worse enemy. The question is......Are you driving it? Or are you racing against it?

Though I have had the 'Ka-mare-oh' thing. At least one of our site owners says it this was I've noticed in the podcasts. I just don't get the 'mare' part. There's no 'e' to get the long a. It shouldn't sound like 'maero', but I've heard some people say it the same way you'd pronounce aerospace. Camaro not Camaero.
The 'ar' should be pronounced the same as it is in these words-
Harry
Marry
Carry
(And if you pronounce them in a way that makes them sound like 'hairy', 'mairy' and 'cairy' you're saying them wrong also. Or just have an awful accent. LOL)

Off all the new muscle cars, Charger, Challenger, Mustang, GTO, etc etc, the Camaro is definately the "meanest" looking of the bunch. So they should definately take advantage of that in their marketing.
Just one suggestion to GM while were on the subject of marketing...

That's easy, Harry and Hairy don't sound alike if you're saying them right.. ;)
Here's another couple words. Harrowing. Harold.
'Hare' is the same way you're saying the 'ar' in Camaro, it's just incorrect in Camaro. Hare and Hair are said the same. The 'e' in Hare gives the 'a' a hard sound. In Camaro there is no E to give it a hard a sound. All simple english. :)

LOL No, not as in 'maw'. God I hate text based conversations. LOL I was just using the breakdown to show there's nothing even vaguely like an 'e' to get the 'mare' you're insisting is correct.
All I can do is add more words that (if said correctly) sound like the 'a' portion in Camaro.
GrAduation
CongrAtulations
Apple
The best way to say it is it should sound just like the word 'marrow' (as in bone) as long as you're saying it how it's supposed to be said with the a said the same as in apple.
Unless there is an E 2 letters away from the A it's not pronounced hard (like Mare), it's pronounced soft (like all the words I've listed previously).

I'm not saying it's not a prevelant mispronunciation. But it doesn't make it correct.
As I said I've heard it MANY times. That does not mean it's the right way to say it. It's an accent thing.
EDIT- Here's a bit directly from the dictionary.
Marrow - Mar-Oh (Pronunciation Guide shows the 'a' being said the same as Apple or Cat)
Aero - Air-Oh
Many people tend to say the aero for 'aro' where it should be 'arrow' (no aero and arrow do NOT sound the same). Popular or not, still not correct.

Ellwyn, any vowel can make an A long -- it doesn't have to be an E.

Here is what the dictionary has for your words-
Camara \Ca"ma*ra\
None of the other words are even there...
Though I won't argue that Camare (whatever that is) IS pronounced Kuh-Mare obviously. Camari (whatever that is) would be Kuh-Marr-E
In any event the Camara above has the same usage of the 2nd A in the pronunciation guide as all the other words I've been listing. The A is pronounced just as in Apple.
Only an E makes the vowel hard(long). Otherwise the word Camera would be Cam-E-Ruh.
I think someone in the past mixed up the words Camaro and Chimaera to get this abomination Kuh-Maero. LOL

Mjolnir 06-06-2007, 10:20 AM Start a commercial like all those *** and german ones- winswept winding road with some indistinct sports sedan rolling along and soft classical track in the background.
Then, while the camera is starting to zoom in and the car is rolling through a sweeping bend, have a Camaro come blasting by. Windows down, radio up, american rock thumping, SBC up on the cam.
The camera angle cuts to follow the Camaro. All you see is tailpipes and tailights, and all you hear is engine and guitars.
The screen fades to black, but the theme song and the engine wail are still audible.
The screen says "Camaro. It's how you say "sports coupe" in America." (Or something else suitably ameri-centric and foreign deprecating)
Nice quick hitter with a simple message. You could make it a 10 or 12 second spot and spam local stations with it. If it was 10 or 12 seconds it allows enough time in the break to let local dealers get their message in too, thereby spreading the cost.

Rob V 06-06-2007, 01:13 PM Well, when Bob Lutz rolled up last year, he was saying it "cuh-marr-oh" whereas everyone around my area pronounces it 'cam-arrow'. I say in their future advertising, GM puts the pronounciation of it to rest definitively and forever.

Correct pronunciation of several words with the same vowel sound as Camaro (http://homepage.mac.com/jakerobb/camaro/PronunciationCorrect.mp3)
Upon listening to these sound bytes, I agree with EllwynX's pronunciations, however I will state that people careful enough (let alone concerned enough) to actually make the distinction are few and far between.
