Everyones best guess..What engine will it be.Killaz 06-28-2006, 08:56 PM Aight guys since knowone "KNOWS" what engine it will be, what are some of your guesses? Mustang Killer57 06-28-2006, 09:25 PM which engine are you refering too? Or should I ask, which trim level? OhioChris 06-28-2006, 10:32 PM In the July Motor Trend it says the "mainstream" (base?) Camaro will "likely" be powered by a version of the Cadillac Escalade 6.2 liter 403HP. I dont know how much I should believe Motor Trend but thats what it says in the 'Chevrolet Convertible is a go' blurb on page 20. stars1010 06-28-2006, 10:43 PM I've said it before...do a search ;) CLEAN 06-28-2006, 11:16 PM Base will be V6, probably not out yet. V8 model will be whatever mainstream V8 is out at the time, probably LS3. 2nd mortgage model will prob have a FI V8 of some sort, also not out yet. RussStang 06-29-2006, 12:19 AM 6.0l Ls2 V8 Unlikely. Killaz 06-29-2006, 01:16 AM hmmm blown 6.2 in the top model.  put a pully on it and bam 500hp.....  what say you? SSbaby 06-29-2006, 03:47 AM I thought it was recently confirmed by "insiders"... HSV will be using the LS3 (6.2L), which will supercede the LS2. This would mean that Camaro will also be using the LS3. Also a possibility is the LS9 (blown LS3). Ron78Z&01SS 06-29-2006, 05:10 AM V6.....Not sure (Don't really care much either ) V8.....I'd put my money on the LS3 guionM 06-29-2006, 08:16 AM Aight guys since knowone "KNOWS" what engine it will be, what are some of your guesses? I guess this engine question will soon be up with "SS vs Z28", "Why won't GM make a Firebird", and some others as the thread that most cries for the poster using a search button. I count 2 other threads like this in the past month to month and a half by memory. Chris 96 WS6 06-29-2006, 08:46 AM LS3 as the baseline performance V8 in the SS with the Z28 getting whatever replaces the LS7 (LS8 6.3L w/blower?) graham 06-29-2006, 12:34 PM What cubic inch will an LS3 be? What bore/stroke? jg95z28 06-29-2006, 12:35 PM LS3 as the baseline performance V8 in the SS with the Z28 getting whatever replaces the LS7 (LS8 6.3L w/blower?) My thoughts exactly. :D Doug 97SS 12-17-2006, 11:30 AM I am hoping for at LEAST 430hp. And near 50/50 weight distribution something that is VERY well balanced. What ever that engine code is etc...thats what I am hoping for. 1997FormulaBird 12-17-2006, 02:37 PM Ive gotta go with: 3.5L V6 tuned up with 230hp or 3.7L I-5 with 250hp from Colorado (I only say this because it is already set up for rear drive, although the Trailblazer 290hp I-6 could be cool) 5.3L V8 tuned up to 350hp for a Z28 type model (this would compete with a 5.7L Challenger or Mustang GT) 6.0L LS2 w/ 425 or more hp to compete with SRT-8 Challenger or GT500 I know it seems conservitive but GM has been going this way anyway(look at the Impala's styling:D ) Z284ever 12-17-2006, 07:49 PM Ive gotta go with: Why? Dave89IROC 12-17-2006, 07:55 PM holy old post batman! 1997FormulaBird 12-18-2006, 08:28 AM Why? Why what? Z284ever 12-18-2006, 12:07 PM Why what? Why you say "I've gotta go with". Unless that's just your way of saying "this is my guess"...which I kinda knew, but I was being sarcastic. CValliere 12-18-2006, 04:23 PM Ive gotta go with: 3.5L V6 tuned up with 230hp or 3.7L I-5 with 250hp from Colorado (I only say this because it is already set up for rear drive, although the Trailblazer 290hp I-6 could be cool) 5.3L V8 tuned up to 350hp for a Z28 type model (this would compete with a 5.7L Challenger or Mustang GT) 6.0L LS2 w/ 425 or more hp to compete with SRT-8 Challenger or GT500 I know it seems conservitive but GM has been going this way anyway(look at the Impala's styling:D ) Just what I was thinking. ilkhan 12-23-2006, 02:07 AM 3.0 V6 ~280-300HP 5.x V8 ~360HP (maybe? 300-420 seems like a big jump) 6.2 V8 ~420HP 6.2 SCV8 ~540HP stone4779 12-23-2006, 06:22 AM 6.2L LS3 w/ VVT is definately going in the V8 model Then the high end model will probably just add some ground effects and a blower and add like 150 hp... SSRich 12-28-2006, 03:08 AM I dont believe the camaro will be getting the LS3. Which it might but may be limited HP because of one reason Big Brother. Which i might get fooled but im saying corvette will always have to be the top dog. Which it could share the LS3 with the base corvette. ilkhan 12-29-2006, 12:03 AM I dont believe the camaro will be getting the LS3. Which it might but may be limited HP because of one reason Big Brother. Which i might get fooled but im saying corvette will always have to be the top dog. Which it could share the LS3 with the base corvette. 98-02 'vette/'maro both had the exact same LS1 engine. Might have been "rated" lower, and a different exhaust setup, but its was the same thing. Several LS2 (remember that engine?) GTOs have dynoed above vettes on the same day/location. Your beliefs are overturned by factual history. And big brother generally refers to the gov, not a corp. 5thGen 12-31-2006, 10:01 PM I think it will be a slightly changed version of the LS2. Or, it will be the LS2 as is today, and the base Vette engine will get bumped up to 450. Good Ph.D 01-01-2007, 03:03 AM Where is that head bang smiley when you need it? SCNGENNFTHGEN 01-01-2007, 07:53 PM I say it will be one of the new 3 valve head motors N/A, w/AFM. As far as what designation said engine will get, LS?????? who knows, it'll be LS-something. I don't think I like the dual in-block cam idea, so I'm gonna say single cam in block, 3 valve head at least 6 litres. I don't see the benefits of having a second in-block cam, and all the extra power it will take to spin it, though I could be wrong. That's my .02! 2K1SunsetSS 01-03-2007, 08:52 AM I think it will be a slightly changed version of the LS2. Or, it will be the LS2 as is today, and the base Vette engine will get bumped up to 450. ls3 will take over for the ls2 starting with the 2008 model year. 5thGen 01-03-2007, 11:54 AM ls3 will take over for the ls2 starting with the 2008 model year. so is it an updated version of the LS2? any info on the LS3? sorry for being lazy and not doing a search. :D 2K1SunsetSS 01-10-2007, 08:36 AM so is it an updated version of the LS2? any info on the LS3? sorry for being lazy and not doing a search. :D 6.2L AFAIK that is the only piece that is confirmed. Chris 96 WS6 01-10-2007, 06:21 PM 6.2L AFAIK that is the only piece that is confirmed. Actually if you've read up on the L92 truck motor you know about the LS3. LS7 style heads with smaller valves to clear the smaller cylinder bores. Variable valve timing thanks to a cam phaser on the timing gear. The truck motor has cylinder deactivation...doubt the car version will have it though. Dave89IROC 01-10-2007, 09:39 PM Actually if you've read up on the L92 truck motor you know about the LS3. You can get one of those at your local Chevy dealer tomorrow. GM would never produce such a close sibling to their flagship. I am sure the engine will have 400 HP +, but NO were close to a 50/50 weight distribution. That is one of the key components of the Corvette, of which, makes it unlike any other car! | ||
