All LS1 camaro/TA's have the airfilter style that takes air up from under the car and in front of the radiator. The actual plastic "Lid" that covers it, seals the top, and sucks the clean air into the engine is what everyone is referring to as the "LID"

The stock one is highly restrictive with the sound baffles and ribs on the inside. Aftermarket companies make replacements that are raised and smoothed out on the inside that yeild a small HP increase and good throttle responce. You can get a good "lid" for about 80 dollars new.

What he said. And I'll add that the small HP increase is around 8-10 rwhp. It's one of the first mod that most of us do. I highly recommend getting one for any LS1 F-body (ram air or not).

plus, it should be everyone's first mod. quick, easy, and pretty cheap.

^yep.... GOt my SLP lid for about $100 back in '03. All lids are created equal. There is really no SUPERIOR lid. Unless you prefer a certain brand name or look.

I kinda like the clear lids, but the SLP lid has a nice clean look...IMO...

Clear is cool until is starte yellowing and is prone to cracking after a few years. Noth worth the added expense IMO, but then again, my car is a d/d.

I picked my lid and filter up used for $50 w/an IAT already in the lid.

The difference between lids has to do with fit & finish. I needed to seal mine with some foam stripping.

Also, dont buy into that "smooth bellows" crap that the "flow pacs" include. Theres no HP advantage at all. I only got mine because it cleaned up the engine bay a bit and it was cheap. You can make your own out of black PVC or ABS tubing for 5 bucks

Its actually a Fernco section (found in the plumbing section of any hardware store). They're pretty stiff and have been known to crack lids.

GM High Tech Performance did a lid comparason in an issue about a year ago.

I've been searching on there and still can't find it, tho.

It is in the May 2004 issue. Although the performance of the lids were similar, the SLP and Motorsport Technologies lids produced the best ET gains. I personally prefer the SLP lid. It fits great, and have a clean "factory" trype look to it.

Yeah i saw and own a few issues of books that all say MTI lids are the best in certain gains. MTI for ME.

My Whisper lid fits like CRAP.

I dont know what the problem is. I can't get it to align properly. When I put the clamps down on it, they usually pop right off. It takes me like 5 minutes to moving it slightly here and there just to get the two clamps to actually clamp down. But even then, they usually pop off a few minutes later or when I shut the hood.

Do i I have a mis-machined lid? It's starting to get on my nerves.

What exactly is the Free Ram Air mod? I thought it was highly undesirable? How do you do it?

That is a (dirty) lid.

"Lid" is short for "airbox lid". It gives the air a smoother path from the air filter into the engine and should be the first mod you do, followed shortly by a 3" catback exhaust. With only those two mods, I routinely walk stock C5 Corvettes on the highway (and a couple times at the drag strip).

Pick your favorite based completely on looks. They all cost about the same.

The previous owner of my car seems to have picked the ugliest one there is. I like the SLP lid for looks, personally.

Has anyone ever heard of "Cool Lids"?

A guy I know back at home station just bought a 35th Anni SS and he knows almost NOTHING about the car. So he found a cheap lid and bought it.

He won't listen to my sugestions.
