Hey all,
I was just wondering what the deal was with running long tube headers in Illinois was?
I heard that Illinois doesn't do a visual check and just does the plug-in check.
What kind of exhaust setup can I run and still be emissions legal? Long tubes? Cats?
Thanks for any light you can shed on this topic.

Technically, its illegal to move your cats at all. However, if youre 96 and up, then all they do is plug and play and as long as your computer thinks everything is ok, then it is. Unless your car gives them reason to do a smog test, which they have the right to do on any car.

Just curious, where at in IL are you located? I am running long tubes right now and I passed emissions last summer. The main thing is to make sure you don't have codes present, but also make sure that your PCM doesn't have too many "not ready" statuses, meaning that if you have your EGR, AIR, and rear 02s deleted out of your PCM, then they will display a "not ready" status and if you have more then two of these, you will not pass. The inspectors didn't do a visual on my car, but I had a shop weld in a pair of cats into my y-pipe just to play it safe.
