Ever heard of orange peel in a window?

Just got my car back from a little work and as I was driving home it seemed "blury" looking thru the windshield. I figured there was some filmy crap on one side or the other, but I couldn't get it off.

Took it back to the dealership body shop and, after looking at it, he said it was caused by the laminate between the glass and described it as "orange peel". After he said that, I have to admit that is an accurate description of what it looks like- similar to orange peel in paint!

Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering WTF could cause it. They are replacing the windshield- thankfully it is under waranty (for another day  ).

Thanks,

Allen

I've seen this caused by someone using a buffer on the glass.

Thats just it, it's not on the surface of the glass. Initially looking at it, I thought something clear was sprayed on the windshield or even a clear window film, almost like clear-coat or something. After really looking at it with the body shop you can tell it is not on the surface.

Never heard of the laminate going hay-wire, just wondering WTF would cause it?!
