where exactly is the battery gauge sensor on a 305 tpi car. i suspect that either it is bad or the gauge is because the gauge isnt reading proper voltage. i know it isnt since i got the charging system tested and it was charging at 13.5 at idle while the gauge was reading under 13 volts.

the voltage reading is internal to the cluster, it reads the voltge of the ignition power feed to the cluster

a slightly low reading is not uncommon, probably an acurate reading of the voltage supplied to the cluster

really??

ive never driven an fbody where the gauge read below 13 volts just how common is this low reading by chance.

anyway to correct it like maybe getting a new gauge or something???

You could try pulling the gauge and clean the terminals. They just kinda' sit on two spring loaded contacts. Check all grounds for the pod also, and (can't stress this enough) use some electrical anti corrosion paste.

go over all the wiring between the battey and the cluster, check all connections(power and ground), repair any with high resistance

Before you start ripping the dash apart try the simple stuff first. I had a low reading on a guage as well, but the test that the local parts stores do for free checked out ok. turned out the connection at the battery was not as good as it could have been, ie clean the battery terminals check for corrosion traveling up the battery cable inside the rubber and maybe even install some copper washers at the battery terminals and under some major grounding points of the car. start small.

i got some pretty nasty battery cables that need replacing the boots around the battery connections are peeled off mostly and theres a half inch section of exposed wire thats a little green on the positive side. could this be the culprit?

i would bet a paycheck that you just found the problem, or did I find it, ahh who cares fix it.
