Ok- just got my new laptop- what do i need to connect to my 94 z's computer and monitor diagnostics..

I notice you have the GMMG exhaust!! Any gains to be had from that or just all sound?

OK- ive got - free scan, and an ALDL cable..

Now- i've got an adapter from the 9 pin on the ALDL- to the USB on my computer-

Now when i open up freescan it says File not found- ( the protocol window is open,then another box pops up to the left)

is this normal?

then if i click ok- it opens up the freescan window where you can mess w/ everything- and i select say COM 4 and hook it into my USB and click START- the protocol window starts running - Finding start Header - or somethin like that over and over and over again- .. no data is ever recognized by the program even though it says bytes are being sent and recieved...

can anyone help me out here?

 

i ran into the same problem. I've heard that if you hook up the 9 pin connector to the usb adapter the software kind of freaks out because the usb sends it as a different frequency or something.

I haven't tried hooking up the cable to a regular IO port because no one seems to have an IO port anymore damnit!! I might have to lug out my desktop!

 

well obvioulsy make sure you have the correct car selected, but sometimes you have to click "force data".

are you doing this with your key in the "on" position as well?

 

well- no matter if i have the USB connected or disconnected, the key on or off- it still says the same thing.. Yes i have 1994 z28 camaro selected.. and yes- i have hit the "force data" button- and it reads a little bit- then stops....

maybe sacremento is right...

I use Andrew's USB cable and love it. Havent had one problem with it. I use freescan because im too cheap to pay for Datamaster. It does all the things I need it to do for me. It has a logging feature but I havent used it yet. Only thing I would be interested in with Datamaster is the simulated Dynos and 1/4 mile.

 

yah order from akmcables I didnt though i should of. I ordered from wotelectronics some steve russ guy , yah i ordered that sept 26 well over 3 weeks it still hasnt showed up. So akmcables is ur best bet.
