92 Camero RS starts then dies
92 Camero RS starts then dies
Hi, have a 92 camero rs can get it started but then it dies , if you keep your foot on the accelerator you can keep it running, but idles rough, as soon as you let off the gas it dies, any ideas
Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
My first guess would be an Idle Air Control Valve, but I don't know anything about 92 Camaro's so you might not have one. Also check for major vacuum leaks, I think where the runners meet the base were big culprits of leaking pretty bad IIRC.
Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
Thanks will check out the idle air control valve if it has one, hope this works, have changed fuel filter, tried map sensor, and coolant temp control, am getting desperate
Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
Hi, new problem still don't have problem fixed and before the check engine light wasnt coming on, now when i try to keep it running light comes on, and then when car shuts off light goes out, then after trying to keep it running it comes back on but its not showing any code except 112 which means it ok
Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
There is no "e" in Camaro.
92's do have an IAC motor. Sounds like its not getting any idle air and you have to crack the throttle blades to keep it running. I'd check the IAC first.

Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
Another thing you could do to "test" it to see if the problem gets better is to adjust the throttle screw on your blades so that they are cracked open when you aren't stepping on the pedal. If the car doesn't die then the IAC is probably your culprit, it isn't opening enough or fast enough for the car idle. Sometimes just cleaning it up with carb cleaner or something helps with any gunk that might be in there.
Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
Sorry guys IAC didn't fix the problem even tried throttle postion sensor which someone else suggested, that didn't work either, it's sprayer fuel to the injectors, but could it be the fuel pump not having enough pressure? Thanks
Re: 92 Camero RS starts then dies
I have a Beretta that wouldn't keep started unless I stayed on the gas, it would die right after I let off. I checked it out. I ended up replacing my fuel pump (I didn't know much about my car at this time so I went with a recommendation). That didn't work. It ended up being the fuse for my fuel pump!!

the "chip" he is refering to is the PROM in the ECM(computer) that controls the engine/fuel injection
at this point, you might just want to check the basics(fuel pressure, timimg, ect.) and if those look good, you might want to take it to a shop, and let them diagnose it, it should only be a hour labor(anywhere from $50-$110, depending on geographic location and shop)
