my LS1 is getting 300 to a tank and my 94 3.4 is barely cutting 200.

on a bad tank 230 or more, on a good tank, 270-285. I don't know what MPG that is....what is our tank, 15.4 gallons or something?

im getting the idea that a 300+ horsepower V8 is going to get more mileage than a stock V6? maybe the car is so heavy, the v6 needs more gas just to pull it around?

Re: 3.4L mileage to the tank.

The 3.4L is just not the most well put together engine from the factory in it's early years--that's GM for you. Give the FWDers the goods later on in the 90s instead! The intake and heads both flow like crap, so that's a bad starting point.

We have a nice fat thread alluding to aluminum heads/intake with a guy with a 3.4L that puts out 216hp/250tq at the CRANK with a bad driveshaft and injectors that are NOT up to the task. Naturally aspirated, mind you. See the potential with a naturally balanced 60 degree v6? I do. Factory iron heads = C-R-A-P. CRAP!

Don't give up on the 3.4L just yet. Mix in a tuneup as well. My friend I bought my 3.4L car from has a happy 95 Convertimaro 3.4/auto owner that gets 30+ mpg's on the highway easily. So, something is going well for at least one 3.4 owner these days.

around town w/ my foot in it i only get 13.4 mpg, but on the highway i average somewhere around 21-23 mpg. mind you this is on a 211,000 mile car w/ no engine work other than a water pump, alternater, and tensioner pulley

haha, i got 211,000 on the odometer too. near 200 miles to the tank. i've decided to sell the car. it runs good and the a/c is freezing, but the gas mileage is worse than my v8 firebird. i've given up on the 3.4. im stickin to the 8 cylinder firebirds.

Re: 3.4L mileage to the tank.

guys, my 3.8L has 85k on the engine and 195k on everything else and I still get over 400 miles to the tank (not sure how much over since they have damn chevy floater guages and no warning light)....in the city i usually get 300-330 with a little hot rodding (if you call my 3.8L a hot rod lol)
