After 2 years and 50,000 daily driven miles of abuse and traffic my SPEC stage 4 clutch finally slipped today. After a long day of driving I got on it going down a back road and hit 3rd and it slipped. I looked at my friend and he said "that didnt sound good" So I stopped and tried a mild launch and sure enough it slipped again. I cant say Im dissapointed at all in the clutch though. From what Ive read I might be one of the very few that had any luck out of a SPEC clutch. I havent been nice to this thing either. If its not the 4500rpm launches at the track or the 3.23 gears in traffic its the gummy 295 street tires. This thing has been beaten almost daily sence it had 2000 miles on it. One thing I did do differently than recommended is I gave the clutch ALOT of breakin time. A full 2000 miles without any hard launches or sticky tires. I also didnt install my dust shield and maybe that helped keep it cool. Who knows? But Im considering sending it back for a rebuild and see how long it will last once Im making alittle more power. Only time will tell.

Im in the same spot, 2 years just about, and my 3 is starting to slip. But i have to say i was at the track for 3 months straight, EVERY week besides like 2. Took a lot of beatings, time to step up to the 3+

What is the differance between the 3 and the 3+? I noticed there is a very substantial differance in the price.

3+ is a full faced disk that is supposed to be a pretty good street clutch, but still hold a lot of power... which is what i need since i DD my car.

Ahh i c. Is it sprung? Mine is my DD also. Ive drove the crap out of it and it never let me down till now, but Im still driving it so I guess it hasnt totally let me down. I just cant stand on it. Id like to stick with an unsprung disk with mine though, sence about 90% of all stage 3 failures Ive seen have been broken/missing springs.

Well atleast you didnt have that problem. Im getting ready to swap a 9" into my car too and Im worried about the springs living through 1.5-1.7 60ft times also. I think Im just going to have the stage4 I have rebuilt and see what happens. Ill be alot better off if it does die doing it this way. Id rather be out $250 than $500.

I have the 4F which is the full disk like the 3+, but doesn't have the chance of dropping out the springs common to the stage 1-3 clutches. It drives as good or better than a stage 3 car that I've driven and SPEC rates it at 850 ft-lbs. It has taken 6k+ dumps on slicks and hasn't shown any remorse as of yet.

4F hmmm.... I might have to give SPEC a call and see what it would cost to get that disk and have my pressure plate resurfaced. Thanks for the info TQdrivenws6. They have so many different styles now. I just got the basic stage 4, 6-puck design. Hopefully I have good luck with my second one too.
