Pics of my 3" True Duals OVER THE AXLE ON BOTH SIDES

Everyone else in my town said it couldn't be done. I disagreed and designed a setup that would work and Keith from Extreme Exhaust in Winnipeg and made it a reality.

A big thanx to Keith from Extreme Exhaust who was up till 1am last night fabricating the exhaust.

In case you're wondering, its a 93 Camaro with billet custom made centre exit tips and SLP SS bumper. All mandrel bent.

EDIT: VIDEOS ADDED.

I need a better microphone for the video camera. It sounds a bit distorted.

Nothing rubs. I can clear fair size speed bumps. I'm running Nitto DRs. I had to relocate the fuel and brake lines and insulate them along with grinding down the panhard bar mount.

And the sound...like a 60s muscle car.

I'll have a sound clip up in a few weeks after the MSD opti comes in.

my magnaflow 4x9" straight thru mufflers (same as Grips i think) made a HUGE difference in sound.

with the straight pipes it was absolutely ear-bleeding loud, particularly on the highway and full throttle.

the mufflers actually toned it down TOO much for what i was wanting. but it allows me to really use the throttle alot more around town.

and mine are still dumped at the axle.

in that last pic on the lift...of the duals side by side....i see it's got the upper panhard bar kit, does it also have a panhard relocation bracket? kindda looks like it, although i am not sure what the brackets for the upper phb are like.

edit...
never mind...just looked up the upper phb on BMRs site....thats jsut part of the kit

Bayer-Z28

Dang. I want TD's....

I noticed you kinda hacked the upper PHB... Would the BMR PHB relo kit work w/ that?

How loud is yours inside at 60-75 mph compared to a catback?

teke184
08-30-2006, 11:09 PM
it's been a whild since i had the catback muffler on...but i'd say only slightly louder than my old magnaflow catback.

it really is quiet and refined

idle it is louder just due to the lope of the cam...but cruising it's nice and smooth

08-30-2006, 11:56 PM
Looks great, very clean. I ran both mine over the passengerside. Not many people manage to get 3" TDs out the back. Yours is a much cleaner install than mine. I had to clearance my trunk pan to fit Aerochamber mufflers.

Do you worrry about taking that much meat out of the panhard brace? Taking those bent edges out removed a lot of stregth.

GoFast908Z
08-31-2006, 12:24 AM
looks very good! Impressive work, especially with double diamond SFCs on there. Now lets see you fit cats on there! hahahaha

teke184

finally uploaded the vids to someplace accessable....lets see if it links

straight pipes (http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b281/keezdiver/camaro/?action=view&current=MOV00679.flv)

magnaflows (http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b281/keezdiver/camaro/?action=view&current=MOV00680.flv)

both were taken minutes apart, from identical camera location.

to give you and idea of how quiet the mufflers are, listen closely...you can hear my footsteps and the "ding ding" of the ignition alarm with the door open.

now from the looks of it, these are the same mufflers as Grip. on a cammed LS1 (400rwhp) where his is a stroked LT1.

but it gives you an idea of how much the mufflers toned the car down

Bayer-Z28
08-31-2006, 09:29 PM
^ OMG.... That lopey idle is .....=drule!.....I LOVE THAT.... Me wanty cam!

Anyway...THe Magnaflows are friggin QUIET!

teke184
08-31-2006, 09:54 PM
in person they are not REAL quiet...it's just that the comparison from the ear splitting sound of the straight pipes is pretty impressive.

i think if the pipes were run out the back it would be even nicer riding in the car, although right now it really only takes a SMALL increase in voice to chat over the drone. and the drone is most likely totatlly due to the reverberation of the exhaust under the car.

those revs were only about 1500-2000rpm

 it makes for a lot of fun around town, not worrying about cops so much. although it still SCREAMs at full throttle.

This is a really great thread. I'm completely sick of having bulletts on my TD setup. Magnaflow is what I planned on getting anyway but it looks like the 4x9" Magnaflows are a good mix of tone without silencing the car moreso than desired. Cant wait to get those and run it over the axle like Grip. I'm anxious for the sound clips of his setup.

teke184: Your car sounds like my idealization of the setup. Smooth, refined with a good bite to it still. Very nice.

Just spoke (over the phone) to three custom exhaust shops. The first two shops wanted to argue with me about how true duals couldn't be done. NOT possible. Some custom exhaust shop! The third seemed more open to looking at my car and discussing it. This just makes me want to do it more now. :D

Agreed. One guy wanted to know if I've ever been "under the car". I'm the original owner, by the way. Other one said there's no ground clearance for 3in. pipes. I told him I thought 3" pipes would provide more clearance than the 4" Y pipe I'm using. Still insisted it couldn't work since the factory didn't do it. I said that's why its called custom. LOL. By the way, awesome looking job on the true duals from the original poster.

Would you gain anything (hp/tq) by running dual electric cutouts in between the header and the crossover? What headers are you running?

Gripenfelter
10-13-2006, 05:09 PM
I'm running Hooker Long Tubes and the ground clearance is pretty damn good. I can make it over big speed bumps but it scrapes on steep driveways.

teke184
10-13-2006, 05:12 PM
i don't think there would be anything to gain by putting cutouts on the setup. the crossover should actually help build power by creating a scavaging affect. and the mufflers are straight through design so the restriction on those is extremely small.

You could put cutouts on the pipes right before they go over the axles. Not sure how much of a gain there would be though.

very interested in this setup, Im interested in what kind of relocation and clearancing you had to do. it looks like you may have dented one of the seat pans up a bit?

Also what are the dimensions of your mufflers?

And would it be rude if I asked for more detail on the brake/fuel line relocation and wrap?
