Hot Rod drives the GT500.
Hot Rod drives the GT500.
These were prototypes so no full performance testing was allowed. HR says it feels like a Mustang GT with a stiffer suspension and more power.
Ford says it'll be priced in the low $40's and claims 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds and mid 12's in the 1/4 mile.
3,920 lbs for the coupe. 4,040 lbs for the convertible.
Hot Rod snuck a G-Tech in and measured a 0-60 of 5.1 seconds and 1/4 of 12.90 @ 111 mph with it. The car they drove though, had less power than the production version, something like 435 hp.

I'll be very interested to read how they handle...I don't mean skid pad and slalom numbers. That's a lot of mass to convince to change direction.
Is all this new found weight the result to upcoming crash standards?

Seems like a really good way to lose favor with the auto companies. Why would you sneak in and test if they specifically said not to do so, then go and publish it? It's not like they won't see it in the article. I'm sure Ford is thrilled to see inexact numbers from a G-Tech posted for their car when the car was 65 hp down from production tune...
Re: Hot Rod drives the GT500.
I think a NA, 450 hp, 3,500 lbs Camaro would eat this thing alive, in any performance measure you'd care to use. And for probably $5-$7K less.
Oh wait for it......yes.....here it comes: The GT500 will be easy to mod. Yeah, that'll make it all worth it.

Ford can always up the power, especially if the Hurricane program comes around in the next couple of years.
You're comparing a fictional car to something that is real.

Re: Hot Rod drives the GT500.
Although not a car that I would buy, I am really glad FORD made the GT500. Politics be damned, FORD kept alive the pony car, so for every special edition and tweak they put on the Mustang, I wish them sales and success.
Now where is my SS/RS, I need to go snake hunting

Its a supercharger, intercooler and all the piping. The 5.4 is heavy anyway. Its a stronger rear end, tranny, and everything else.
Re: Hot Rod drives the GT500.
I would never look to them for 1/4 mile times. They haven't been able to get a respectable 1/4 mile time out of a stock car since the early 70's. Last time they ran a Mustang it was an 03 Cobra and it went 13.3 and lost to a stock WRX right on the cover.

If you want a real car, look at the '00 or '01 WS6 Motor Trend tested at 13.0 or 13.1.
It sucks that Ford might really release something like that as our competitor since "we wont be beaten."
Here's hoping it come out a lot faster than that so our Camaro will just have to be that much faster!

And that 5.1sec. 0-60 was done with TERRIBLE wheelspin off the start. And the G-Tech was not calibrated.

I think all mags are saying the exact same thing right now. I'll wait for Evan Smith to do a test in MM&FF.
How ya been Z284ever.
