5th Gen Weight

IDK if this is a retread, but I was reading Motor Trend this month, and it said,

" Chevy engineers working on the new Camaro have run into a small problem with the Australian-developed Zeta RWD platform: It's porky. Whisper out of Melbourne is the Zeta-Based Commodore sedan, on sale this year in Australia, will weigh in at 4000 POUNDS, mainly because of the local crash-test regulation."

Well, I was thinking that seems a little heavy, becuase I've read on this site, and in some magizines that it's going to 3400 to 3500 pounds. I was thinking with the 2 extra doors, and the crash stuff the Camaro can't weigh that much. I don't thing the Camaro will be that heavy, but how much will you guys think it will weigh?

that's a totally different car. same base, but apparently this platform is supposed to be VERY flexable. fitting a 4.5k lb car or a 2.5k lb car on the same platform is what they are goign for here i think with flexability.

It's been pretty beat to death over here. I think concensus is ~3650-3800 lbs w/o driver.

Still porky, IMHO.

as the adage says "the opera ain't over til the fat lady sings!"

(hmmmm.......that didn't sound good, did it???)

You can be assured that we realize the penalty of weight both in terms of fuel economy and handing.

Don't assume anything at this point.

(and I'll wink ---just for Mr. Cosby!!!) (Just kidding!!!)

Re: 5th Gen Weight

LOL. Nothing would please me more (well....that's not right....lets just say I'd like it) if the new Camaro came in at (what I consider to be) a reasonable weight. Granted - my idea of reasonable might not be realistic (to say nothing of what I'd REALLY like to see), but I'd like to be pleasently surprised. No offense - I'm not holding my breath.

Will just wait and see. I retire in July 08....probably good timing for waiting and seeing.

Bob - who is not pleased with Ford's current selection of powertrains (especially N/A)
