Take this for what it's worth (most likely not much) but I took my current Camaro into my local Chevy dealership (where a good friend of mine works/near Boston) today.

While speaking w/my buddy he introduced me to the gm of his dealership. The first question out of my mouth of coarse was when will the Camaro be back?

He told me that he has heard whispers that it will be on the lots in mid (to beat the Mustang to the lots) to late 2008 as a 2009 Camaro.

I must stress I have never met this person before. But, my buddy claims that he does have some connections to the people who matter.

So if the Camaro doesn't see the light of day until 2012 I don't want to hear it. But, I thought I'd pass along what I was told in person.

 

So if it was possible to get it out for mid/late 2008, would it beat the challenger as well?

Man, as soon as GM had this concept they should have been liek BUILD IT NOW.

 

I wouldnt believe it unless I heard it from GM itself. My guess is we will see it in 2009.

 

until you hear it out of Scott/Bob's mouth, don't believe a word you hear. With as lose lipped as Bob is, you will hear about it sooner then later, and when he slips, you can bet that Scott will be posting here talking about it.

 

It's pretty common knowledge that if it is approved (pretty much a certainty) Camaro will be out no later than 2008 as a 2009 model.

 

Shhh, but I have a feeling it might be on lots in early to mid 07'. We vewy vewy qwuiet.

 

Me too...perfect for the 40th anniversary. If ever there was a reason to rush a project through at all costs, this would be it.

 

Sure would be nice. However, I'd prefer GM take their time and make it right.

Rushing it out would without proper and thorough developent work, it would lead into getting a half-ready product being released and that could turn out to be quite disastrous.

 

In Atlanta, Scott Settlemire said No Way to model year 07. I believe him, 40th anniversary or not. But......he would do nothing but smile really big when people talked about 08.

 

Funny. At my local chevy dealership, one of the salesmen was trying to tell me it's just a concept and they're not progressing any further on it. The other guy was telling me "Yeah, sure, you can put a $1000 deposit on it." (A big no-no...) Just goes to show that dealerships don't know much. Listen to Bobby and the Fbodfather, not "insiders" at dealerships.

 

2008 Calender year or model year?

 

That sounds about par for the course GM has traditionally taken. They would then leave a year or two of production to work out the major bugs and wrinkles. By the time the 5th gen is what it "should" have been all along, they will bring out the 6th gen and start over.

With the strides GM has been taking to improve quality lately I'd love to see them do the new Camaro "right" from day one. With the financial pressures they're facing I think there's a huge temptation to just get the thing out on the lots ASAP and get the sales rolling in. I predict we'll get both to a degree: a car that comes out sooner than we first expected with less quality and features than we initially hoped for. This leaves us to wait and see if they strike a good compromise.

 

i wouldnt trust a dealer though. i was once told that they had 5th gen pictures as their computer desktops about a month before the unvail.

i saw one desktop in the showroom with the kris horton camaro on it

 

I was in my dealer a few weeks ago and I was told "GM will find a way to screw it up...I'll believe it's coming back when it's in the showroom"

That coming from a chevy salesman...nice attitude.

 

Sold cars for awhile myself so I can relate to his attitude.
