GM cancels HUMMER H1
GM cancels HUMMER H1

With them using the hierarchal-style naming structure (H1>H2>H3) ... it'll be a little odd with no H1, even if it only made it into the hands of a few people.
I wonder how the HUMMER brand image will survive without a true halo vehicle for a 'premium brand'.

Re: GM cancels HUMMER H1
Those things are getting blown up left and right in Iraq. Maybe the DoD is buying up all the 2007 production capacity. I doubt that was the last H1, AM General will be building the Humvee for some time longer and I expect a limited run of H1s again someday. Although the DoD could switch to 3500 series trucks for non-combat use and a more armored vehicle for what the Humvee is doing in Iraq right now. I imagine armored Humvees are pigs with all that extra weight. Non-armored ones only do 65mph as it is. They could really use the Duramax.
Re: GM cancels HUMMER H1
IMO they should keep it as the top model and just build low production numbers like now. The Hummer H2 and H3 are "mini" H1s as it is...why would you make the H2 the top hummer?
That thing needs some more speed to it and maybe make it more liveable?

Re: GM cancels HUMMER H1
Well there is a GMT900 truck based Hummer coming. Maybe it will be the new H1.
Edit: and the H2 has a 122.8 inch wheel base and the Tahoe is 116 and the Burban is 130. I don't know what it is based on, but it seems more Tahoe based with the front tires pushed forward, for better ground clearence, than Suburban based which would require more work.

GM only sells ~600 H1's annually. Still, like everyone else I think the H1 is valuable as a flagship vehicle. Perhaps GM sees more value in somehow saving face by discontinuing a vehicle like H1 in the days of $3.00/gallon gas?

Don't be so sure of that.
Believe it or not, the H3 is actually more 'capable' than the H2 -- and they both do amazing things off road-- esp. when compared to just about anything out there.
The sales of the H1 were about 450 units a year. very limited market and dealers are reluctant to stock.
We'll continue to build the various versions of the Military Hummvee.......
.....meanwhile, there are 'things in the works."

Hey, if someone has that much money for an offroad hummer, they can buy a used military issued one and get it customized to their liking.
