I'm waiting for NASCAR to merge with the National Bowling League. Could make for more interesting racing.....but unfortunately, less exciting bowling. :)

lol
They both stand on their own fine though.

Cart stands on its own without an outside source like a turbocharged 4-cyl does without outside support, lol.

And now with Paul Tracy dipping into NASCAR's junior leagues..

IRL & CART merging!

I've always been confused about IRL and CART, since I never really followed either.... weren't they the same thing way back in the past? It would be nice if someone could provide a timeline comparison between the two leagues..

10 or so years ago I believe when Tony George started IRL. Why or how it exactly happened... Too long ago and I don't pay much attention to "Advertising" oh I mean racing anymore...

You'll find me at the local Midget and Go-Kart events. Much more entertaining and usually less expensive.

Is it CART? or Champ Car Series?
I thought CART went bankrupt and shut down a couple years ago.

CART was Bought out and reformed as Champ Car.

The IRL was formed in 95 by Tony George. It was orignally designed to be an open wheel oval series to give American Drivers and smaller teams a shot in the Open Wheel world. IRL took some of CART's drivers at the time and the series splite from each other taking bits and pieces with each.

Since then Indy Car style open wheel racing has declined in the US. I say Indy Style, because I hate it when people say "Open Wheel" racing is dead because of it. No it isnt because there are still plenty of Open wheel sprint cars and midget car series running across the nation fine.

The IRL has since long strayed from its intentional purpose. CART strayed a long time ago from its original mission statment from when it split from USAC.

Then due to greedy and stupid business decisions it died and was reformed as Champ Car. Getting back together and coming to a compromise would be the best for both series. However both sides have some huge egos in charge that would just spell disaster for such an effort.

I'm all for it if they get rid of the oval tracks and go strictly with street and road course layouts. :D

I'd agree here! Now add in some smaller sporty coupes...say, Mustang, Camaro, GTO, etc.. Even some foreign offerings. I'd watch that! Don't think it'll happen in my lifetime though.

They must have delayed the announcement...probably due to the elections.

I'll have to have my buddy check with his source......

What is CART? What is IRL?

BTW, I know what NASCAR is. There's a point there (be it good, bad, or otherwise).

Open wheel racing is dead... in America.

Open wheel racing is dead... in America.

Only if you consider Indy Car style open wheel racing the only form of OW in America. There are plenty of sprint car style series still going strong. And quite frankly, they put on a better show and better racing than CART or the IRL ever did. From Quarter Midget racing to the WoO style cars, they put on a wail of show rather it be on asphalt, concrete, or dirt.
