I wanted a new catback damnit!

Long story short, I went to the E-town swap meet yesterday hoping to find a catback for my car...The only thing I found was F-body Motorsports and they wanted $425 for a LM1...Needless to say I basically told them to go kill themselves Anyway the whole experience left me disgruntled so today I cut my stock exhaust off right behind the axle...I figured the LM is basically just a straight pipe and I wasn't about to spend that much money so I figured I could make my own basically for free, (albeit with 2.75in tubing vs. 3in). It actually sounds pretty sick, when I first start it it will pop alot like a LM but that quickly goes away for the most part. It idles a bit louder than stock. It doesn't drone too bad but I haven't cruised on the highway with it yet so I'll give an update tom if it doesn't rain. Overall I'm very happy with it and for any of you out there who are thinking of buying a LM or similar system I would tell you to save some money and cut off the stocker right behind the axle. If you decide you hate the sound it would be a cheap fix and you won't be out of $375+. I brought it over to my friend's house tonight, (he has a '01 Mustang GT with SLP x-pipe w/ highflow cats and a LM2 catback). He has been saying for a while now that his car is too quiet and when he heard mine he said it sounded sick and he's now seriously thinking of just dumping his exhaust right before the axle. I also noticed it feels a bit quicker now, not a huge gain, maybe about the same as when I put my CAI in...It's hard to tell because the extra sound can make it feel faster then it really is. I wish I could get a sound clip up but at the present moment I can't...I'll try some time this week though.

Hope the cops don't care in your area. I know that wouldn't last long on the streets where i'm at.

So your essentially running a cutout then? Nothing wrong with that if it is the case, cutouts sound good on stock manifolds.

Only if you can't keep your foot out of the throttle.

Re: I wanted a new catback damnit!

I just put my magnaflow on a few days ago but before that i was driving around with the strait pipe comming out over the axle. And with a set of longtubes and 3inch ORY it was DEAFENING LOUD! Sounds like a big block dragster and it definatly turned heads driving down the road. Nice, but also ghetto and i didn't want to get pulled over and have the cop see that my cats are gone. Needless to say my muffler is on now and it's not as fun. I want the cable cutout from summit!

Re: I wanted a new catback damnit!

Well, after driving it on the highway yesterday I have come to the conclusion that it is very loud. What I'm plannin' on doin' is either running a piece of piping out the back or at least turning it down so it isn't dumping right at the heat shield. (It almost creates this buffetting effect, and it can become irritating...I figure just running it out the back will alleviate this problem.) It does sound pretty decent though...Just imagine a loudmouth but a bit louder...I definetly wouldn't want this though with a set of lontubes and or an ory.

well power increase from a regular catback to a cutout is about 5 hp. so factor in the smaller pipe and you're probably at about 2hp more than a catback, maybe 11 hp bettter than stock

when you get sick of it, I have a SLP dual/dual I'd give you a good deal on. You're close enough to pick it up too.
