Claying time?

What kind of time can I expect to spend using Mother's clay on my car? What should be used as a lubricant?

You can mix up a lubricant with Dawn or car wash. As far as the time it will take, it depends on how perfect you want it. I take my time and do a "full" claying in about 60-90 minutes, making sure I got everything. Some people spend more time, some less. My light claying may only take me 15 minutes on the areas that need it.

That's not bad. I asked because I just saw somewhere a few days ago where a guys said something about spending 12 hrs claying. I am pickey about the car but have no interest in claying a car for 12 hrs! Thanks

Claying wont hurt the layers of Zaino built up ? Will it?....Mark

I'm in the process of claying the car in my sig. The paint was nearly perfect when I started, but it's still going to take me approx 6-7 hours to do it. :eek:

...but then again, I am pretty anal when it comes to detailing my cars. A normal, sane person would have spent maybe an hour on it. :D

If you only have 1 or 2 coats of Zaino and hadn't clayed before and now plan to do a full claying, you will be essentially starting over.

If you have several layers of Zaino and are only doing a light claying, it will have virtually no impact on the Zaino.

Well I'm done. I started at 5:30PM and it's now just past 2AM. I washed the car well twice, dried it and began to use the clay. Went in order of hood, roof, front bumper, fenders, doors, quater panels, hatch and finished with the rear bumper. When I first started with the clay it slid right over the surface with just a little spray. It seemed smooth as could be. I continued and had just about finished the entire car with only 2 dime sized spots were the clay had even the slightest friction and that went away as soon as I felt it. Besides almost dropping that slippery SOB a few times it looked basically new(the clay). THEN I get to the rear bumper. :eek: That bar felt like it was almost being rubbed against sand that was placed on the bumper. The bar started getting dirty really quick. I spent almost two hours on the rear bumper!
I followed up with the cleaner wax included w/ the clay on the entire car. It really doesn't look ANY different than it did before, EXCEPT the rear bumper. HS it SHINES. Standing behind the car it looks great. I never noticed how dull/crappy it must have been until now. The bumper looks like it was just painted even though it's almost 10 pampered years old.
I just thought I'd let you all know how it went.

The rear bumper gets it the worst. I helped a guy with his car one time and you could scrape it off with your fingernail it was so bad. That did take a while to clay.
