How many shims are too many?supercharged87 04-25-2006, 08:54 PM I converted from A4 to M6, and I'm having issues with my starter. I put a .040" shim in it and its still binding up and not pulling back, I think I need at least another .040" shim on top of that. Does this seem excessive, .080"+ in shims? With the automatic flexplate with the same number of teeth as the flywheel I got didn't use any shims and worked perfect. Also if this matters the starter is a factory one. 94EvilZ28 04-26-2006, 09:23 PM Well when I did my conversion...I used the original starter...with no shims and mine worked fine...Are you sure its not the starter...like the bendix spring in it or something? like i said...i didnt use any shims...and worked perfect... 95LT1conv 04-27-2006, 05:08 PM are you sure you didnt get a flywheel with 168 teeth? that would be the difference supercharged87 04-27-2006, 07:05 PM No I'm not sure that its not a 168 tooth flywheel. To be honest, I was an idiot and didn't count the teeth before I put it in, now I'm really regretting that. It's a McLeod zero balance billet steel one that came with my Street twin clutch kit. I called McLeod and they said it is supposed to be 153 teeth. If it is a 168, can I sim it out enough, or do I have to get a different starter, or worse do I have to take it out and put a 153 in?
