Can someone explain strength of gears 4.10 vs. 3.9 etc

I have heard a bunch of random things on here about some gears being stronger because of the amount of teeth. I have also heard differing opinions like some saying 3.73s are stronger then 4.10s and vice-versa. Going off of this, how would a set of 3.90s in the 10 bolt compare? Yeah, I know they are all weak, but which is inherently the strongest?

The higher the gear ratio, the more teeth will be on the ring gear. Since the gears are the same diameter, the teeth have to be thinner to fit more teeth. Therefore thinner teeth = reduced strength given that the gears are made from the same metal. Not sure if 3.90's are made for the 10 bolt.

Motive just started making them, perfect for my set up. So, they will be somewhere between the 3.73 and 4.10 in strength then? Heard of several people happy with their 3.73s with regards to strength, cept for a few naysayers so I should be fine. Thanks

NO! I doubt that's a fair synopsis. I would hope for the best, but also plan for the worse. They very well might break on the 1st pass of the night. I feel from the above statement that you're making light of the gamble that you are taking.

Well, I mean I know it's going to snap like a twig if I drop the hammer on it, but I'm going to be changing some things around (lighter flywheel, LPW girdle) plus I'm not a dragger. The reason I want those gears is because they will allow me to ride out all of fourth in the straight at a nearby track. Light street duty is all it's going to be seeing too (3000 rpm slips on streets) Still, going by that rule of thumb it should be somewhat stronger then 4.10s, and those are usually what's recommended to people.
Now after all this I better knock on wood ( :knock on wood: ) or else my next post be asking you how your 8.8 set up is doing, cause I need one.
