Let's plan a NorthEast Ohio meet for this summer!!!!!
Ok all of you NE Ohio/Western PA members, I want to plan a local meet for this summer. I think there are enough members in the area to put together a decent sized get together. I was thinking of making this a two to three day event.
On June 23-25, the local carclub "Hollywood Knights" is hosting the Steel Valley Nationals carshow at Quaker City Raceway in Salem, Ohio. So there will be the carshow and racing going on.
On June 24, Summit Racing is holding a benefit cruise-in for the Akron Children's Hospital.
Plan
Friday June 23, we could go down to QuakerCity for some racing (all-day test-n-tune from 10-5) and check out the car show. Then on Friday night, head upto Boardman for dinner somewhere (Chili's, Denny's, Perkin's, Applebee's, Friendly's, TGI Friday's, Golden Corral Buffet [good food], The Grand Buffet [excellent chinese food buffet]) and then hit Rt.224 for some cruising. Saturday June 24, head up to Summit Racing in Tallmadge, Ohio for the benefit cruise-in, and pick up any parts if you need any
. Then came back to Boardman, Ohio for dinner and more cruising.
Sunday June 25, Hit up Mill Creek Park for a cruise through the park and then some BBQ and photo ops. For the BBQ, there are two good places I can think of on the top of my head. There's a place in the park called Rocky Ridge. It has short holes golf, batting cages, a baseball field, and a covered pavilion.
But there is one problem, the pavilion at Rockey Ridge has to be rented out for use. But here's a description of what it offers
The rates for 3:00PM-9:00PM are $50 and 8:00AM-9:00PM is $100. The park does have its own full time police department, so if there is any problems, they can be contacted.
A second good place is by Lake Glacier. It's down the road from Rockey Ridge. Lake Glacier doesn't have a pavilion, but you can go fishing if you have a license, just don't go swimming in it, lol. On the other side of Lake Glacier is the famous Rose Gardan. It's on a very large hill [large parking lot too] that over looks most of the park.
OR we could go to Boardman Park for the BBQ. Their pavilions are open to the public. They also offer a large modern playground for the kids, sand volleyball field, paved bike/hike trail, baseball fields, tennis courts, and large open fields for whatever.
What do you guys think? Any and all opinions/suggestions welcome.

Open on one side, picnic tables and benches to accommodate the maximum 24 people allowed at any one gathering, electricity, pay phone. Recreation area is open to the public and includes grills, large playground, sandbox, spraypool [open water fountain to cool down in], lawn area, Par 3 Golf Course; ballfields, tennis & batting cages, and sand volleyball courts. Reservations for sand volleyball courts, batting cages and tennis courts can be made by calling (330)740-7114. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Nearby restrooms. Available for use the Friday before May 1 and ending the Saturday of the week in which September 30 falls. May be rented 1/2 day or full day. Special access by permit only.

I just wanted to add that GMR Speed is having a dynoday on either June 24/25 or July 1/2. If it happens to fall on the 24/25, we could maybe integrate the meet into the dynoday if there is enough interest?
For those of you who dont know we started a little something called Thunder In The North last year and it was a huge success, we had approx 75 cars between 2 small message forums and a couple locals so this year we plan to make it even better. If you are not familiar with the layout here it is.
Date: Will be either June 24th and 25th or July 1st and 2nd. [This is depending on the response I get back from the dragstip on which date would be better.] This is a 2 day, weekend event.
Saturday: BBQ/Dyno Day/Car Show/ cruise at GMR SPEED [1669 W.130th Hinckley, Ohio 44233]. This is a good chance to meet fellow board members and make some new friends. Also we will be offering $15 dyno pulls for that day. The food is promised to be awsome, last year that was one of the biggest compliments we had, we served everything from pasta to burgers and dogs. After hanging out at GMR SPEED we will work on a cruise to a local car show that every weekend promises at least 150 cars, not including the group we would take. After that im sure a party/bonfire will jump off somewhere or even invade the local racing scene that night
Sunday: Race day at Dragway 42. We are working on brackets/classes for racing [any input will be considered]. Last year we pretty much just ran a test & tune/grudge racing and had a burnout contest. This year we plan to give out trophies/prizes in catagories such as burnout contest, longest wheel stand, best reaction time, best 60', fastest radial tire car, fastest FI and NA car, best of show etc etc....
We really hope to have a good showing this year and promise an awsome time.
Pricing will be released as soon as we get a def. date from the track and a little better feel for how many attendeees we will have, obviouslly the more attendees the less it will cost.

It looks like the GMR Speed event is for july 8/9.I was going to suggest/post on neofb.com a request for a social event/picnic and get a consensus on when neofb members would like to get together.

I live about 3-4 minutes from Quaker, so I'll be hosting something at my house around that time. Probably bust out the grill and fryer, possbily potato gun

The invitation list would be pre-screened since it would be at my home, but ameant94ta/Camarocracy/jtcz28/Speed2Much/ SSmoked/Cantonracer/Darkhorse/ Handyman/ Grease/CamaroSS30thAnn/juiced93 [Painter]/Slip /Manaro are all invited, anyone else I'd like to meet first or have recommended by someone I know.
Anyone with a long drive - ameant94ta, Akron men, CamaroSS30thAnn, could either camp out in the basement or bring a tent and rough it outside.
As far as people causing problems, that would be the reason I'd pre-screen as many people as I can. I dont think we'll have problems though
There is also a car cruise in Salem July 7th that I and a few of my good buddies are going to be in charge of/helping with. Everyone is invited to that too, the more fast 4th Gens the better. According to a few of the main organizers we have full cooperation with the various law enforcment departments to pull without question anyone we want out of the cruise. This includes all ricers and A-holes.
