I am wondering if anybody here has ever used touch up paint for their car? I did a little bit the other day and I tried to use rubbing compound to smooth it out and what not and I ended up slightly scratching my original paint. Could anybody tell me how I can avoid this or is it something that just happens?

I hate rubbing compound! I have tried it several times and always came out with the same result......more scratches!

there are several other steps to follow after using rubbing compound. it is abrasive so of course it is going to scratch. nothing a good polishing wont cure

don't you use polishing compound AFTER the rubbing? polishing is basically replacing small scratches with SMALLER scratches.

i had a TON of small scratches in my paint from a palm tree that was battered against my car in a hurricane last year. few hours of rubbing and they are 75% gone...at least from more than 2ft away.

you could also try some 2000 grit wet sand paper, then rubbing, then polishing

been wanting to try that, but i wanna test it on a "junk" car first. ii've got 2 or 3 chips in my hood that i'd like to get rid of
