Door Speakers in '97, need 2 or 4 OHMs?

Both my factory door speakers are blown, I'm thinking of getting Pioneer replacments. I've searched this forum and read about 2 ohms being better than 4 ohms for replacing these speakers in an otherwise factory system.

Will there be a problem with installing these? Also, are there 4 wires going to the factory speaker? For some reason I think there are four...

I chated with Crutchfield about this and they said that my (non-Monosoom) door speakers were 4 OHM.

But what about the wiring, are there 4 wires at the speaker connector? Anybody have experiance with these speakers?

Two wires, a negative and a positive. The negative wire usually has a stripe going down the wire so you can differentiate between them. The speaker you just bought will also come with wires to connect. One should be black, and the other grey/white. The black is ground (smaller connector) and the other positive. Very straight forward :)

They are one their way to my door. Expected early next week.

I have the 4-ways in my doors. Just put them in yesterday and they sound great just like the other 50 cars I've put them in. My pass. speaker amp (bose) is crapping out which sucks but im getting a 4-ch anyway which they sound real good on by the way.

Your front speakers are going to have 4 wires going to them, but when you install your speakers, you are only going to use 2 of them. You cannot use the easy connectors that crutchfield sends with the speakers, you need to do a little wiring of your own.

I got the speakers today but the 'Mastersheet' does not go into the purpose of the factory 4 wires or how to splice them. 'guess I'll call Crutchfield tech support if nobody here can tell me how to connect these.

Do I cut two of them and only use one for the positive or do I splice all the positive wires together?

no, youll only use two of them. I THINK(cant quite remember, i did this last summer) that you will be using the black and white striped wires. The other two you just cut and dont use. The factory uses two wires for the woofer and two wires for the tweete on the factory speaker. The aftermarket speakers only use two wires for both. Its prolly best for you to call Crutchfield anyways to make sure. Thats what I did and they helped me out a good deal. Good luck

I installed them today.

The drivers side has 4 wires:

Dark Blue = positive mid range
Light Blue = neg mid range
Black = POSITIVE tweeter
Yellow = neg tweet


I connected one side with only the mid range wires to the speaker and the other with mid-tweet together. The mid range sounds louder and cleaner, why is this?

Also, I tried to hooking up just the tweeter to the speaker and thats all I got, high freq noise.
