Whitten 04-05-2006, 06:11 PM I know that alot of you will be either staying in a hotel or possibly driving down but I wanted to see if there was any real interest in doing some sort of a caravan.
As early as it might be, I think it would be fun to wake up Atlanta with some V8s rumbling through the city.
Saying that the weather is good my group will have a 2000 SS, Possibly a 2003 Z06, and more than likely a Daytona Yellow 2002 ZL-1.
If you are interested in getting a group together so that we can all park together before the show and also make sure that we are on time, post up. Depending on where everyone is located we might be able to meet up at the Marriot where they hold the Gathering Every year and then caravan down town in a massive horde of GM Muscle.
Silverbullet02ss 04-06-2006, 11:37 AM I'm all for meeting at the Marriott. I live about 10 miles from there and it's pretty much on my way to Atlanta anyway. I'm sure we could get Andy and the other guys that set up the Gathering in on this too. I will post on their forum as soon as a plan is made.
Whitten 04-06-2006, 11:46 AM Good deal, it would be great to get everyone together and I am sure that Scott will be impressed with a nice Muscle Car Motorcade.
30thZ286speed 04-06-2006, 05:12 PM Any word on parking, if there is a Camaro caravan can someone get us some special parking out front?
Whitten 04-06-2006, 06:05 PM As far as parking goes I have no clue, that would be up to Scott and the guys at GM. I don't know if that is possible but hopefully if he sees this and it is he can throw something our way.
At any rate I know there are several parking garages right there between and under the GA dome, and the Congress center that we can park in.
Skeeterz28 04-06-2006, 06:52 PM I'd be up for that.
graham 04-07-2006, 04:26 PM 4.5 hours away and no overdrive :(
Chevycobb 04-10-2006, 05:03 PM I know I will be at the show. As far as parking that would be hard because it will be at the world congress center and most the parking for the congress center, Phillips arena, and the Georgia dome are mostly in one big parking deck..or in independently owned lots. It may be more of something to set up with Atlanta police to try and get something separate, and I can almost promise that will be very difficult to do. One thing is though, as long as there aren't many other events going on the deck can be pretty empty on some levels so you may get lucky. And trust me....hearing all those V8's in that garage will sound badass!
Silverbullet02ss 04-11-2006, 12:37 AM I agree with Chevycobb in the fact that it would be hard to have a place for everyone to park other than the parking garage. There are only two possibilities. 1. There is a two lane street between Philips Arena and the parking garage. It would make a cool showing to have 50 cars or so all packed in there. Of course everyone would be blocked in. 2. Right by that there is a two lane street that goes between the parking garage and the Dome then turns in front of the World Congress Center. We could line the curb or take up the two lanes closest to the median. It's all far fetched, but man what a showing it would be. We have got to get a message to Scott somehow and work something out. Look up World Congress Center Atlanta on Google Earth if you want to see what I am talking about.
Whitten 04-12-2006, 01:25 PM Well I am up for anything. I would love to get a large group together. It would be fun if we could all park out front or where ever but honestly I think parking in a garage would be just as much fun with all that rumble.
Let me know what all of you are interested in doing and where you are wanting to meet up so that we can get kinda organized.
Silverbullet02ss 04-12-2006, 11:45 PM Ok, here is my thought. Everyone that is interested in doing this let's start spreading the word that we will all meet at the Marriott where we have the Gathering no later than 7am and leave by 7:15am. It's only like a 20 minute ride to Atlanta from there. If people who are interested want to start emailing me at blade757692@yahoo.com so I can make a list that would be great. I have been calling in a few favors trying to get the 2 lane street next to Phillips Arena opened for us, but I'm not dare promising anything. If there are any other thoughts or ideas please feel free. Sorry if I am stepping on anyone's toes since this wasn't my idea originally, but I thought I would get something going

Silverbullet02ss 04-14-2006, 12:08 PM NEW INFORMATION So I was down at Philips Arena last night and I managed a meeting with the head of security. He said he sees no problem with the request to park beside the Arena and he just had to get the idea past his boss. We are going to talk again the beginning of next week to see what details we need to work out. I just really need to start finding out how many cars to expect. Just like the Gathering we should get as many F-bodies as we can. Even if this doesn't work out it would still be fun to do the caravan down and just hit the parking garage.
chevygirl027 04-16-2006, 09:41 AM When does everyone plan on making the trip down 75. That would be cool to have a large group of camaros on the highway. I don't have the big V8 but would love to join in, depending on the day.....

Wow you have made some really great progress with this. Thanks so much for doing all of this, and really don't worry at all about stepping on any toes.
Just let us know what you find out about the parking issue and then we will just plan from there. I am going to account for atleast 2 cars in my group very possibly 3 so there is my head count. By the way if you are interested in looking us up on the list in my group will be Michael Whitten(me), Ginny Robertson(g/f), Greg Brock, David Watts, and John Dyer.
I wonder if Matt Murphy would like to join us? May have to try and get in contact with him.
christianjax 04-18-2006, 09:32 AM Well count me in, I'll be in a 99 Trans Am, and my bro-in-law in his 69 RS.:D
LandonElf 04-18-2006, 02:21 PM OMG, hey guys i need your help badly. I'm signed up for the atlanta auto show private viewing, but the wonderful ISP known as AOL decided to delete my confirmation email out of my inbox because i hadn't accessed it in a month. Is there anyway to recover my number or do i even need it to get into the private showing?
Please send a link! thanks!
Whitten 04-18-2006, 04:44 PM You could send a PM to fbodfather, and let him know your name and what happend and I am sure he can get you going in the right direction.
LandonElf 04-18-2006, 07:25 PM thanks! i'll do that right now, hopefully the fbodfather won't have me killed for incompetence.
Silverbullet02ss 04-19-2006, 09:47 PM Ok, so I haven't received an answer from my connection at Philips Arena yet. I did talk to him today and he said he is still waiting to hear from the powers that be and he would "prod them again." Just wanted to give you guys an update. Please keep spreading the word just incase I get the go ahead with everything. I mean it would be really great to have at least 50 cars. If there is anyone coming from south of Atlanta maybe we could all meet at the Varsity and then cruise through Atlanta as a group.
christianjax 04-20-2006, 08:10 AM I'm coming up from Jacksonville Florida, but I'm coming up Thursday evening.

Great, thanks for the update. My group has commited officially, and it looks like we are going to have the ZL-1 and the 03 Z06. They are getting in touch with a few people that are also going so we will see who else we can wrangle up.
Is there any mention of this over at LS1 tech? If so what is the link I would like to see if there is anyone over there that is going that I know and see if they want to join us.
30thZ286speed 04-23-2006, 01:30 AM Keep us updated.....I have not made up my mind yet on what to drive. If there is going to be a good sized group I will drive the Z down.
graham 04-23-2006, 10:07 AM I wont drive my '99 but if I buy a local 99 SS I would probably drive it.
Let us know something Thursdayish
Silverbullet02ss 04-23-2006, 01:11 PM Well, as of right now I don't have any word on special parking for us a Philips Arena. The director of security was all for it and he told me to get in touch with his boss for final approval. I have called the guy twice this past week and have heard nothing back from him. I guess there is still a small chance that something could still work out though. I still think it would be great to do a cruise down there even if we end up in the parking garage. So for everyone that is still interested I am still planning to be at the Marriott by 7:00 am and leaving out of there by 7:15 am. Keep spreading the word so we can get as many cars as possible. I mean if for some reason the guy from Philips Arena calls, it would be nice to fill up that side street. I will let you know if I hear anything

Whitten 04-29-2006, 12:58 AM Ok so here is the deal, apparently we are all meeting at 7:00 at the Marriot on Wendy Hill Rd. This is the same Marriot that the Gathering is held at every year.

Good to meet ya at the Varsity. Just registered. thanks for the info about the site. Randy
infinitebird 04-30-2006, 02:02 AM christianjax,
were you the guy I followed that got lost? haha, I was the other black car that parked with you.
00formula6spd 04-30-2006, 02:28 PM Yea I think he was following me and got stuck at a light.
Silverbullet02ss 04-30-2006, 04:23 PM Thanks for all you guys that showed up at the Marriott. It wasn't perfect, but it was lots of fun seeing all that power cruising down the highway. Maybe we will have to do it again next year so we can cruise down and see the production version :metal: Here's to wishful thinking. See all you guys at the Gathering.
Whitten 04-30-2006, 09:01 PM Lots of fun indeed, enjoied meeting you all.
30thZ286speed 04-30-2006, 11:58 PM I totally planned on stopping by the Marriott to see if anybody was meeting there but with Atlanta traffic being so unpredictable I didn't risk it with the time I had. I stayed out by the Mall of Georgia and came in on I-85, when I reached I-285 it was almost 7:00 am so I decided to head on in on I-85, since I didn't know exactly where the Marriott was on exit 260, and then add in the fact I wasn't too familer with downtown Atlanta. But everything turned out very well for us, we were parked and in the building by 7:30 wandering around looking for anyone, but nobody was there so we weren't sure if we were in the right place. The security guard let us through so we ended up on the car show floor but couldn't find anybody but mantinance people walking around, we were wondering the whole time if we were in the right place. We went back to the lobby and found Scott putting up the welcome banner. At that point I knew we were in the right place. And the rest of the morning was awesome.
EDIT: XM Instant Traffic & Weather for Atlanta was a huge help getting around Atlanta over the weekend.
christianjax 05-01-2006, 07:33 AM Good to meet ya at the Varsity. Just registered. thanks for the info about the site. Randy
It was a pleasure meeting you too. Imagine my surprise, driving down the streets of an unfamiliar downtown. Looking to my right and getting a brief view of a bunch of Firebirds lined up behind the Varsity. I was screaming "Eureka!"
