i had recently put on a used MAF i had purchase off here cuz i was getting a MAF trouble code, believe it was p0100 but not sure
besides the egr code i have b/c of the headers, i now am getting a p0172 bank one too rich
anyone know what the possible cause is?
edit
02s were replaced with header swap b4 winter

couple things, a plug is fouling, or an injector is sticking partially open. pull the bank one plugs and check them out

P0172 sets when the weighted average of the long term fuel correctons on that bank indicate that they are pulling out more than 13.3% excess fuel in an attempt to correct what the PCM sees as a "rich" condition.
First thing you should do is put a scanner on it, and look at the long term fuel corrections for both banks of the engine. That will tell you whether its a problem ONLY on the drivers side of the engine, or if its a problem on BOTH sides, but the Bank 2 long terms have just not quite reached the threshold that would set P0175.
If its only a problem on Bank 1, you may have the leaking injector as noted above. If it was a fouled plug causing a misfire, it would show up as a "false lean" condition, because the O2 sensor would be seeing the air (oxygen) that was not burned up when the plug misfired. O2 sensors can't see "fuel". But if you have a leaking injector, the excess fuel can be burned in the exhaust primary, using up the normal residual O2 that the O2 sensor expects to see when the engine is running at 14.7:1.
If its a problem affecting both banks of the engine, the MAF becomes suspect, along with excessive fuel pressure, faulty MAP sensor or TPS sensor giving a false reading that indiactes high engine load or high throttle position when there is none, EGR valve leaking, etc.

With a rich code the car was running acutlly running lean but the computer is trying to make up for it by dumping a bunch of fuel in that bank. I have seen a ton of this proublem in the dealership with the LS1 baised motors. So you proubley have a leaking intack or somthing along that lines. Or bad O2 sensor like above I would send you the flow sheat but in 97 they were only in paper forms. Good luch i would say hook up the Tech 2 and look at all sensors like MAP MAF all that kind of stuff good luck.

yep ,this is what iplan on doing
im supposed to help my buddies dad with the roof on his garage , hes ordering a lift so we can work on our cars :D
basically i help him build it ,he helps me build my car, so im gonna ask him to bring the tech 2 home
i wondering if the 02s got fouled out from the coating in the headers, i couldnt run the old ones so i had to replace them without running it for a while

You've got it backwards. The "rich" code sets when the engine is running rich, and the PCM can't lean it out enough using the long term fuel corrections to reduce fuel. The long terms can only go to 108 (minus 15.6%). They set the "rich" code when the weighted average of the long terms is minus 13.3%, AND the average short terms are in excess of minus 9.4%..... its pulling fuel out to correct a true (or a "false") rich condition.
Add a saturated EVAP canister to the list of possible causes.... I forgot that one.
