Im brand new to LS1's (just traded in my LT1) and am wanting a nice run-down list on where I should start. I'm auto so definitely a stall. Probably step up the gears to 3.73's (again ) I know a lid would probably be a good place to start. Are they all pretty much the same?

Thanks for any info.

Just know what you'll eventually want the car to be:

- A car built totally for the track
- A weekend cruiser
- A daily driver with a mix of the two

Whatever you do, research your mods before you buy, they're expensive and should be done right the first time.

Lid
- This is on every modified LS1. It's cheap, easy to install and it works. Buy this first.

K&N Filter
- Too close to call (in my opinion) to determine if there's a gain. These engines have tremendous vacuum suction and will suck up almost everything in front of the air inlet. Play it safe with a dry paper filter.

Headers & Off-Road (ORY) & Catted y-pipe
- You get what you pay for, enough said.

Trans. Cooler
- This is the best $50 I spent on my car. A no-brainer mod. for any car.

Subframe Connectors
- Another no-brainer mod. It really supports the car better, soaks up bumps better and you'll be glad they're there when you bring your car to a shop and the guy working on it has no clue where to lift it up at.

Yeah, lids are all pretty much the same price and same hp increase -- buy on looks.

What are your plans for the car? Drag? Autocross? Daily driver?

daily driver. i never go to the track. saying that i wouldnt mind an eventual cam, no heads. id like full exhaust (lt's or mids) into 2.5" duals. full suspension. i know on the LT1 cars a good tune, even with minimal mods, saw a nice gain. is this true with ls1's?

who makes those clear lids ive seen on here?

I think MTI makes the clear lid. Tuning a stock LS1 won't do much... maybe 5hp if you do the premium gas tuning. With a cam and headers, a tune will have some nice results.

No heads? Is this for budget reasons?

I'm thinking of doing the air ride suspension they featured on Horsepower TV. I like the adjustability -- drop it when racing for extra-tight handling, and lift it when you need to go into a steep driveway or over a big speed bump.

no heads to conserve the gas. a cam, depending on its size, will drop my mileage enough to add ported heads in the mix. gas mileage is a big deal in my case since I drive my car so much.

If you're never going to the track, anything other than a good-sounding catback is pointless.

Pointless? I never ran my LT1 at the track and I had 3" duals on it. I think the sound beat any catback I ever heard, even your overpriced corsa and borla. Only thing comarable, in my opinion, was the GMMG and we all know how much those run.
