Header installlittlbasterd 04-02-2006, 09:29 PM gauging interest in buying headers....offroad style what else do i need besides headers y-pipe and egr block off...the headers will be on an 02 ss teke184 04-03-2006, 06:54 AM well since it's an 02, you won't need EGR block off since that was eliminated on the 01/02 cars. you will need AIR block off plates though. i suggest some oem style metal gaskets. and you'll need some o2 sims and o2 extensions for the front sensors. littlbasterd 04-03-2006, 06:02 PM no need for sims i'm getting a computer tune littlbasterd 04-05-2006, 12:00 AM wear can i find air block off plates i can't find them anywhere TransAmAbe 04-05-2006, 05:01 AM If you get "off-road" a.k.a. race a.k.a. no-emissions headers you don't need the block off plates for the AIR system. The off-road style headers are only off-road because they don't have the connectors on the header for the emissions systems. Like teke said, get some gaskets, might want to replace the plugs since you'll probably need to remove them anyway for clearance to take off the manifolds, if you go with long-tubes you will need O2 extensions for the front or you could just splice wires in and do it yourself. Depending on the miles of your car and your level of patience don't be suprised if you break a plug wire or four. Abe teke184 04-05-2006, 07:30 AM and take a look at my install guide (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/243722/11) should help with some of the tricks littlbasterd 04-05-2006, 05:51 PM then what is teke talking about with air bock offs if i don't need them? TransAmAbe 04-05-2006, 10:20 PM That's a good question. Teke, what the hell are you talking about? Damn wierdos with their pre-2001 cars. ;) Abe littlbasterd 04-05-2006, 11:05 PM Well i found it on thunder racing and it is the smog pump block off plates.. Which i'm pretty sure no matter what year the car is you need...because that is an emission system that will set a code...so i'm pretty sure Teke pointed me in the right direction...Thanks Man:cool:....but if anyone can show me i don't need it i would appretiate it althought they are only $9 each teke184 04-06-2006, 07:23 AM yeah...not sure what i was talking about...temporary insanity. CURSE these inferior temporal lobes!!! i think i read the "egr blockoff" and assumed something i shouldn't have. if the headers are offroad style and the car is 01+...no need for any blockoffs but you'll have to remove the AIR pump and all it's liines, and have the code programmed out. GhostZ28 04-06-2006, 03:24 PM is there really any gain in non emissions headers? I was looking at some non emissions for my car, but i didnt want the hassle of getting block off plates and removing hte air or whatever. Is it worth the hassle or is there no real HP gain? CustomSSI 04-06-2006, 04:25 PM It will clean up your engine bay and get a bit of weight out of your car. Also will make it abit easier to work on since some hoses will be out of the way. littlbasterd 04-06-2006, 05:04 PM what about the air line hose that comes out of my air box lid? that is part of the air system GhostZ28 04-06-2006, 05:06 PM Does anyone have a removal guide for the air and egr? TransAmAbe 04-06-2006, 10:46 PM Here's the deal with the AIR system. Screw you guys with EGR that system is just one more thing to break on your car. Get rid of it. I don't have it and never did so ask someone else (like madman Teke) how to remove it. To remove the AIR system you'll need some vacuum hose plug/cap things. Also something to block off the hole in the side of your air filter lid. If you know where to get one let me know, I still haven't found one. You have to pull off the AIR solenoid that's towards the back of the intake manifold. That's the circular thing that the two metal pipes going to the exhaust manifolds hook in to. You can follow the hoses to the AIR pump, which is easily accessible from under the car if I remember correctly. A couple bolts and it comes out. There's a 30 amp fuse in the under hood fuse box for the AIR pump, and then you just have to get the codes in your PCM tuned out when the car figures out what you've done! As far as performance gains, removing the AIR system won't help you. Removing the EGR system will help you long-term as all I've ever seen an EGR system do over time is add carbon build up to a motor. And maybe it lowers some dumb emissions or something, but who cares about that? Abe teke184 04-07-2006, 07:37 AM some people will argue that the EGR tube that sticks down in the intake manifold robs hp.....probably does....maybe 1/2 a hp. best thing is that the engine bay is cleaned up. GhostZ28 04-07-2006, 10:48 PM In that case when I do my header install, I'll tear it out as well. Anyone know of a good deal on poly motor mounts? I wanna replace those when I'm under there. teke184 04-07-2006, 11:39 PM all the vendors sell them for about the same price. see if you can get in on a sale, or double online discount that some of the vendors do from time to time. | ||
