Dupli-Color Engine Enamel. :o I didn't know what else to use and I wasn't looking for something expensive and perfect. Just sanded down the chrome (which was interesting in itself to do) and applied 3-4 layers of black gloss and then a final layer of clear coat. Not sure how long it will last but it was a fun project.

Can't wait to find some lowering springs...

You should've powder coated them. I wonder how that would look...
Oh well, it looks great! I cant wait to do this to mine once mine are all
degraded looking

I'll do something like that down the road, this was just an easy $10 mod for me to try. ;)

Best method is powder coating. Second best is to use epoxy based paint. Im thinkin of either the Hyper Black or the Gunmetal with the polished outer lip. Should look good on my Hunter/Polo Green Z.

looks good, if you want it to last longer shoulda put like 1 more layer of clear on there and give it a good polish and waxin!

I dont think it will matter how much clear you put over them. Clear in a can doesnt contain the hardener needed by the clear you would use to spray a car if you used a hvlp gun or equivilant. It will chip easily.

There is only one spray can out on the market that I am aware of that holds up to a real clear coat. I cant find the link right now but I know the can is orange in color.

Let me know if you do come across it.

And yes the chrome was coming off pretty bad on the rear wheels. If not, I probably wouldn't have done this. That's how I bought them so I got them pretty cheap! :D

I have that theme going basically on the entire car, that's another reason why I did the wheels like that. I like it. :)

Hey that turned out pretty good. You did a nice job of masking everything off and keeping the lines straight. Remember that link I gave you in the other thread about stripping your chrome off? Well this stuff here will give you the same effect as the other but it's ALOT cheaper:

http://www.motostorm.com/images/HYPERBLACK1.jpg
http://www.motostorm.com/gpage.html2.html

A $60 bottle contains enough paint to do 4 wheels. This paint differs from the other stuff I showed you in that it works over a black base instead of needing a chrome base. I've got a bottle of it myself that I plan on using on a set of wheels that I'm currently polishing and the stuff in raw form looks almost identical to that weird silvery substance that was in those "Etch-A-Sketch" toys from back in the day. It's pretty trippy to watch what happens to it when you shake it up. Anyway just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.

thats so sweet. i like the thick chrome edge instead of the normal very small polished edge you can get off ebay and such. so how was it with that chrome and painting over it?

The paint went over the chrome just fine and seems to be sticking very well.

Those look really nice. I was actually looking to pick up a set of ZR1s to use for street tires and dd usage and now I'm sure when I get them I'm going to go the black route. I want to use that hyperblack stuff, wonder how that would turn out?

ibanez6rg (http://web.camaross.com/forums/member.php?u=29375) could you post a step by step how you did it?
