driveshaft question

after seeing krause's sticky, went to some of the links. is carbon fiber really that much stronger than the metal composites? golf clubs i can see, but anytime i used c.f in a torque scenario for machines, it snaps in seconds. anyone have experience with these shafts?

not sure, but I think it will hold like ~ 600 rwhp

I haven't heard much good about the CF shafts to be honest. Most of them I've heard have some serious issues where the ends are bonded to the CF shaft portion.

Personally if you're making any serious HP, I'd go with something more reliable like a Denny's NR shaft; guarenteed against shaft breakage for life.

Serious cars use good chromemoly shafts. Denny's, Spohn, and Dynotech are all excellent sources.

I had an ACPT CF DS that failed (metal input section separated from CF tube) under part load with the computer tuned only for enough power to drive the car from the engine shop to a body shop. I can't imagine what kind of problems I would have had it it had let go at 800HP on the chassis dyno.....

That sort of turned me off on CF. It also turned the shop that built my engine off on CF, but when they needed a DS for their 7.0-second Pro5.0 car, Mark Williams told them that due to the length and the 9,000+RPM redline, the only material they could use that would meet the critical frequency requirements was CF..... so their 7.0-sec car ran a full season with a Mark Williams CF setup, with no problems. I guess it can be done by some companies, but ACPT didn't do too well.
