Anyone think the camaro will get it? Or would that shoot the cost up?

I don't know what it would do for cost, but I know a lot of people who won't even look at a car with a 4 speed auto anymore.

Test drove a C6 with the new 6 spd auto and liked it so much we went ahead and ordered a new C6.
I would like to see the new Camaro with it.
They are a trip to drive. Not bad in the 1/4 times either.
Guys on Corvette Forum with stock C6's are in the 12's.

Can someone explain to me the benefits of a 6-speed automatic?

I would assume closer gear ratios so better acceleration then the 4 and 5 speed autos.

I believe,
Better overdrive gear...for mpg.
And a better ratio between gears. So you can get more tq multiplication and better gearing, but the same drivabilty as taller gearing in the current 4spd autos.

I expect every new RWD model that comes out after 2007 to have a 6 speed auto.

4 cyl. cars will probably keep the 4 speeds the longest.

I would like to get a six speed auto if I decide to get the convertible and I agree with most people here that 4 speed autos are going the way of the dinosaurs soon.

Does anybody know the gear ratios on the 6-speed auto and what rear end will it use?

I don't know what we will see in the Camaro, but here is what the ratios are for the c6:

First: 4.02
Second: 2.36
Third: 1.53
Fourth: 1.15
Fifth: 0.85
Sixth: 0.67
Reverse: 3.06
Final drive ratio: 2.56

The 6 speed auto setup in the C6 is simply awesome. The gear ratios work out incredibly well for a performance vehicle. Here is a input rpm vs axle rpm ratio comparison (individual gear ratio x final drive ratio)

T-56 94-02 v8 F-body
9.10
6.09
4.45
3.42
2.60
1.71

C6 6L80E
10.29
6.04
3.92
2.94
2.18
1.72

The first gear in the C6 is deeper, even through the 2.73's, than the M6/3.42 combo for getting off the line, and it is the same for top overdrive gear (for all intents and purposes).

If available, my powertrain choice is going to be the 300+hp v6 with a 6spd auto.

That will definetly make for a unique Camaro.

Although I doubt I will actually get one, I do hope to see a v6 with this kind of output in the 5th gen. If I had to get a v6 car, this would be a sweet v6 car to have.

I'd definitely like to see it.

I think that A6 in the new Vette really helps it performance wise. Many people had a tough time getting into the 12s with C6s - especially with autos, but I just recently saw a bone stock C6 with the auto 6 speed went 12.4 @ 112  Here's the thread:

GM will be be making it difficult for anyone to not consider a Camaro of some sort, at least from a powertrain perspective. GM is FINALLY going to take advantage of their power of scale and commonality.

I think alot of the difficulty getting into the 12s lies more with GM's torque management system than with the trans, although the 6speed auto certainly helped.

Yeah you're probably right.

I think the 5 and 6 speed automatics will eventually completely replace the 4 speeds that became so common.

I seem to remember somewhere that a 6L80E only costs something like $80 more to make than a 4L60E, so it shouldn't drive the cost up that much. But consider this statement heresay for now though because I don't remember where I heard it.

I bet that cost comes down too once the 4 speed is extinct... remember Volume=LEss $$$

I can't imagine Camaro not having the 6L80E. Camaro has shared engines and transmissions with the Corvette for a long time. Distributing the cost of the engines and transmissions across multiple vehicles makes it more econimical to build. This is the same for the chasis; Camaro, GTO, & Commodore will share one chasis. I can't imagine GM not distrubiting the cost of the new A6 into other vehicles.
Let me put it this way, if the new Camaro does not have the A6 then I will not buy a new Camaro, so the mere fact that I am buying a new Camaro proves undoubtedly that the new Camaro will in fact have the A6. (I just hope the top dog Camaro gets the A6 option, instead of T56 only like the CTS-V and Z06)

Me too, since the whole auto world has been bitching and bitching about the 4 speeds GM still has in their trucks/SUVs. I think the 6 speed auto will become the next 4L60e, it will be in everything.
