I just bought one of those MSD 6A ignition systems. I'm just curious about any performance/driveability gains I can expect...

MSD 6A benefits?TRSCobra 03-23-2006, 10:25 PM I just bought one of those MSD 6A ignition systems. I'm just curious about any performance/driveability gains I can expect... Mods are in my sig. IHI 03-23-2006, 11:31 PM If your existing ignitionis working properly you will not see any performance gains. Many claim it smoothed up the idle a bit or made the car easier to start, but I promise you will be no faster if your old ignition was upto snuff-been proven at tracks across the country time and again. 87DJP2001 03-24-2006, 08:16 AM None, also may be the start of electical problems after you install it. Evil TA 03-24-2006, 09:15 AM not really sure why you say that.... i've used a 6, 6a and now a dig 6+ box - the 6a lasted me 7 years before i finally just upgraded... still worked fine IHI 03-24-2006, 11:32 AM Anything mass produced is bound to have bad apples here or there, just as how/where it's installed will also lead to possbile problems. Our group has 12 6AL's with the newest being 4yrs old and none have ever given a hint of problems to date. TRSCobra 03-25-2006, 07:02 PM Well, I got it installed... The driveability is better, but there's a little hesitation as soon as you give it gas. Probably needs to be re-timed. While the rotor was off, I noticed the one spring for the mechanical advance weights was off. Its probably been like that since I bought the distributor, as that was the first time I had the rotor off. 89TramsAmGTA 03-25-2006, 08:55 PM I did back to back dyno tests and maybe a 2RWHP gain. Bottom line is you won't notice it. 2000GTP 03-26-2006, 10:32 AM It might smooth out your idle a little bit, that is about it though. anthony714 03-26-2006, 02:44 PM not worth the coin...better off bolting a bottle up...stock ignitions make more than enough spark for a street engine | ||
