When you say air, do you mean, A/C, or the smog system? Shorty headers are common on these engines, especially Heddmans, Hookers, and Summits (what I have). There aren't clearance issues if that is what you mean.

I know a guy that wrecks alot of third gens,
they pull the motor with tranny, all accessories, and even the harness still attached,

I know for a fact that you can't install SLP shorties on an L98 and then install the engine...you must place the headers in while the engine is going in.

Yeah the easiest way is to just have some extra hands to hold the headers in place while you're lowering the engine into place and positioning it...then bolt them on....that's what we had to do.

Not true. Installed my SLP headers then but my engine AND tranny in together (with NO help). The trick is you have to rotate the engine onto it's side as you are going in, so they will clear the engine mounts.

It's so easy to hold the headers in place with bungee cords or some coat hangers it doesn't make sense to leave them attached to the engine. Way to easy to catch them on something and bend them or rip off a wire or kink a brake line while swinging around a 500 lb. engine it doesn't make much sense to try to drop them in while attached to the engine, in my opinion.

why not just put the motor in, and the bolt on the headers after? my hedman shorties slipped right in and took about 15 minutes to tighten up and be ready to go.. itd probably make it easier to put the motor in with the headers off and its not hard to put the headers on after so i dont see the problem....
