Can I use any 700r4 or are their camaro specific ones?

This is a bad month for transmissions, both my 700r4's went out. The first car I put in a 5spd speed conversion I had lying around. This one I'd like to keep automatic.
So I'm in the market for another 700R4. Going with a rebuilt is pretty much out of the question as I'm trying to keep costs down. I see 700R4s all over the place but most of them are from trucks and vans. Can I use these transmissions? What is the differance?

As long as you get one with the Chevrolet V8 bellhousing pattern, and you use your stock tailhousing that has the torque arm mounting holes on it, you're fine.

How are the shift points controlled?

By the governor. Keep the one from your old transmission and put it in the new one.

When you get the new one, just install a Corvette Servo. It's easy, and cheap.

yeah - the shifts are controlled by the shifter - as in 1st, 2nd 3rd ect... the movement is the same for all 700r4's as far as i know. Definately do the corvette servo - easy and a great little cheap mod - will really wake up the 2-3 shift. Other than the bell housing bolt pattern, all you will need to do is swap on your fbody tail housing to be able to mount up the trque arm :)
