SMUJeremy 03-16-2006, 04:09 PM 6. Solid interior (especially any console lid)
Camaro25thann 03-16-2006, 04:49 PM There won't be a 10 bolt rear. It's going to have IRS.
Bert02SS 03-16-2006, 04:59 PM The Monsoon was garbage.

Another vote for interior quality
My 1994 Z28 overheats like there is no tomorrow sitting at a stoplight. Even with the fans on high. Also make it easy to work on, where is does not take hours upon hours to change spark plugs.
HAZ-Matt 03-16-2006, 05:17 PM My Monsoon is good enough, granted the Firebird one was slightly better than the one in the Camaros.
Amen on the window motors.
JakeRobb 03-16-2006, 05:40 PM '01 and '02 Camaros got the same Monsoon system as the '97+ Firebirds. They fixed that one, or at least improved it. The newer system is 500 watts, the older system was 200 watts.
My Z28's Monsoon hits pretty dang hard for a stock system. All of my speakers are stock and haven't blown yet. I'm a little disappointed, because if they were to blow, I'd have a better excuse to give my wife.
Evilfrog 03-16-2006, 05:53 PM I think chevy is going with pioneer right now as far as high end systems.
94Camaro_Z_28 03-16-2006, 05:58 PM Transmission, Transmission, Transmission.......I've had 3 4L60E's.....and now I'm going with a t56 this time....

blackblur1996z28 03-16-2006, 09:01 PM Make the 5th gen so you don't need to have hands like ****ing baby to work on them for the littlest things like spark plug and wire change!!!!
More legroom on the passenger side....tired of the ol' lady complaining!!!
guionM 03-16-2006, 10:10 PM PacerX organized a thread here that compiled a pretty extensive list on this site a couple of years ago that included everything imaginable up to the kitchen sink.
It was then presented to Scott to pass up GM if I remember correctly.

Yeah, but that IRS is going to have a diff, and hopefully the diff will be stronger than GM's crappy 10 bolt.

We got the real equalizer though while you got the SCV. And did the Camaro ever get the same number of speakers as the Firebird?
Joe K. 96 Zeee!! 03-17-2006, 09:26 AM IMO the Monsoon system was OK at best. I prefered the pre'97 Bose actually. Monsoon was hampered by cheap speakers and very odd wiring. Front tweaters were powered by the head unit, all other speakers powered by an "amplifier" of sorts. Head unit was 4ohm and powered the front tweaters. Other speakers were 2ohm where the industry standard is 4ohm. The woofers were really just mid-range speakers with the other signals filtered out. I don't play loud music occasionally but don't really crank it. I lost 2 speakers on my '99 and one on my '98. Total ownership time...3 years.
Now on my '96 with the Bose system, which I drove for 5 years, I never blew out a single speaker. Not only that, the sound was clearer and there was less distortion. The car had 127,000 miles when I sold it. In sound quality, Monsoon was a step down.
Don't fall victim to peak specs. 500 watts is no good if it can't correctly get to your ears. Now I did like the head unit in the Monsoon better. It's more user friendly IMO. A lot of folks don't like double din units as they're more difficult to upgrade. Or so it's said.
Here's a good FAQ on the Monsoon.

My Camaro supposedly has eight speakers, but I have only found six.
greg_nate 03-17-2006, 11:37 AM - True dual exhaust....getting rid of the passenger side catalytic converter hump on the floor board.
- Weak clutch designed for a six cylinder.
- Brake rotors big enough to handle the weight of the car.
- Chassis stiff enough not to require sub-frame connectors.

You're a little inconsistent -- please try to make your list things you want, or things you don't want, but not a mix of both. It makes it easier to read.
My stock clutch is pretty darn strong ('01 and 02 LS1 M6 cars had the Z06 clutch). My brakes are strong too. What year was yours?

Didn't the Monsoon system in the '02's supposedly have 10 speakers?
I remember I was always only able to figure out where 8 of them were.
I was very happy with it, and I crank up the music kinda loud fairly often...
Bradl1982 03-17-2006, 10:51 PM Key fob that works from more than 5 feet away from the car. A remote start or something like the corvette has would be awesome!! A good stereo, I don't care what you guys say, the Monsoon blew ass! I've had 3 speakers blow and I don't even listen to music that loud. It would also be cool to have a single din size radio so it is easy to upgrade. Fenders that don't get their bottoms crushed every time someone puts your car up on a lift. A HUD would be cool but that's probably just wisful thinking. Seats that actually have some side support. The ones in the concept look nice.

Behind the front speaker grill you have two speakers...a tweater and midrange. Bass speakers are at the rear seat and filler speakers in the hatch.

You won't hear me disagree with you.
SFireGT98 03-18-2006, 07:49 AM Key fob that works from more than 5 feet away from the car.
AMEN!
However that seems to be fixed as a buddy of mine has a G6 and he can unlock his car and remote start his car from halfway across the parking lot.

Hey, that's cheating. I hate that they count tweeters when they're mounted right with the woofers -- why not just use a two-way? Bah!
Key fob that works from more than 5 feet away from the car.
My key fob works from a good 50 feet, and it's running on five-year-old batteries.
Didn't the Monsoon system in the '02's supposedly have 10 speakers?
Mine sure didn't:

I think the '02 Trans Ams might have had 10.
TrackMagicWS6 03-18-2006, 01:09 PM Fuel pump access door would be nice...
DrewSG 03-18-2006, 03:45 PM I think the '02 Trans Ams might have had 10.
They do. My car has 10 speakers
JakeRobb 03-18-2006, 04:31 PM They do. My car has 10 speakers
Where are the additional two? A-pillar?
For reference, I have a woofer and tweeter in each door, a woofer in each side panel next to the rear passengers, and one more on either side under the hatch.
HAZ-Matt 03-18-2006, 05:35 PM The Firebird Monsoon has tweeter and mid in each door, the fake woofers beside the rear seats, and 2 under each grille in the hatch for a total of 10.
JakeRobb 03-18-2006, 06:25 PM The Firebird Monsoon has tweeter and mid in each door, the fake woofers beside the rear seats, and 2 under each grille in the hatch for a total of 10.
Are all four speakers under the hatch the same size, or is it a tweeter and mid like in the front?
Joe K. 96 Zeee!! 03-18-2006, 08:14 PM Hey, that's cheating. I hate that they count tweeters when they're mounted right with the woofers -- why not just use a two-way? Bah!
Well, FWIW they're wired seperately. It makes replacing them a PITA unless you use the cheap stock speakers. I replaced both of the front ones. Had to use a soldering iron to connect them to the stock adapter. Midrange is now a little quieter because it's a 4ohm vs. the stock 2ohm, but still sounds better IMO.
HAZ-Matt 03-18-2006, 08:16 PM Are all four speakers under the hatch the same size, or is it a tweeter and mid like in the front?
They are different sizes, at least in my Bird.
