So, does this mean that the silly little "GM" postage stamp badges are going to go away after one year of promoting each car as a GM vehicle to show corporate strengh?
Did anyone like the idea of the GM postage stamp badges?
blackztpi 03-10-2006, 02:58 PM i did like the badges. they were small and a good color. don't mind them at all
dream '94 Z28 03-10-2006, 03:02 PM From right off the start: "General Motors Corp.'s new strategy to drum up sales: Market the vehicle brands, not the company"
How about putting out compelling products?
I'm not sure how to feel about all this initiatives changing so fast. From the outside in it kinda looks like an act of desperation.
Its an easy way to tell which cars are 2006 models now

Sadly that's true....
Since most cars are clones of each other from one model year to the next until a refresh anymore. :(
guionM 03-10-2006, 04:51 PM Its an easy way to tell which cars are 2006 models now
So true. :)
FWIW: I at first thought the GM badges were a pretty boneheaded idea. Now, I don't mind them. On some cars where they're well placed (Grand Prix for instance) it's actually a nice touch.
But I still think it was a boneheaded idea trying to focus on the company despite pumping billions into individual brands to differentiate them.
90 Z28SS 03-10-2006, 08:21 PM It was just a dumb move period . WIth all the problems they currently have , that would be the last possible thing I would spend money on , and I bet that cost them a ALOT of money .
v8pwrdz28 03-10-2006, 08:27 PM that lil badge would be the 1st thing to go if i ever got a 06
2000GTP 03-10-2006, 08:40 PM How about putting out compelling products?
Couldn't agree more.
91_z28_4me 03-10-2006, 08:53 PM How about putting out compelling products?
Wasn't there another person with a multi step plan that 'proved' marketing is everything?
CLEAN 03-10-2006, 09:39 PM Depends on the car. I don't mind where ours is (the badge) but on other cars it would have to go, I saw either a CTS or STS the other day and it was not in a good spot. Some cars look better w/ it in other positions.
DWray 03-10-2006, 10:23 PM that lil badge would be the 1st thing to go if i ever got a 06
Agreed. :)
:p
Z284ever 03-10-2006, 10:53 PM 20 years from now, car afficianados will see '06 GM cars and say ....."look, a GM badge car."
5thgen69camaro 03-10-2006, 11:11 PM You know, Im not sure I liked them but on the concept I didnt mind. Not for looks but I imagine everyone was/is downloading Concept pics and its just a reminder, thats a GM youre drooling over. Though I havent seen them on pictures recently. Were they and the GM Design badges taken off?
BIG B7887 03-11-2006, 12:16 AM ...too lazy to read the link, but I guess the badge is gone after this year :p
I was wondering if anybody ever noticed it wasn't on one specific car ;) ...I thought the idea was supposed to be all inclusive...
MasterEvilAce 03-11-2006, 01:52 AM You know those badges will be worth something many many years from now.
"see this son? It's a Limited edition GM badge.. came on GM cars during a year ot two"
"Daddy what's GM?"
"Oh it's a defunct car manufacturer"
jrp4uc 03-11-2006, 03:20 AM I missed any direct reference in the article to removing the badges from new models. Nonetheless, I can do without them. I've see one too many that look slightly eskew which does nothing to promote quality. Put them back on the seatbelt buckles if anything.
JB'z 94 03-11-2006, 04:16 AM I think they look ok on the new Escalade and on the GP as mentioned, but some cars just don't look right with them...
morb|d 03-11-2006, 04:44 AM i wonder if those VW "Fast" commercials had anything to do with this...
Darth Xed 03-11-2006, 09:05 AM I missed any direct reference in the article to removing the badges from new models.
There was no direct mention of it... but as I began to read the article the first thing that came to my head was how great the little badges were going to be for linking all the brands together and promoting all the positive feelings that the public has about GM, but not necessarilly the individual brands.
Now........... they are saying the exact opposite of this.
So, I am assuming the badges will be gone... but, then again, they are on the 07 GMT-900's... so, maybe they'll just keep slapping them on until they run out of them?
Or, maybe they'll just keep putting them on all the models and continue to send out a contradicting marketing message.
5thgen69camaro 03-11-2006, 01:59 PM Put them back on the seatbelt buckles if anything.

97z28/m6 03-11-2006, 02:35 PM i want them back on the buckles too.
CamaroBoy96Z28 03-11-2006, 02:42 PM I dont mind the badges too much on my Cobalt. Its more the dealer logo on my rear bumper cover that annoys me. My 5th gen wont have a GM badge or dealer badge on it. F**k that.

You should ask the dealer to remove its badge and fix any remnants of it.

Indeed.
My dealership know I do not like the stickers from the dealership put on it...
Interestingly enough, they no longer put them on anybody's car... they give out dealership license plate frames instead.
dav305z 03-12-2006, 01:50 PM Watching this whole GM marketing debacle is a lot of like watching a once respectable person struggle with alzheimers.
Does anyone in GM recall that they used to make little seatbelts with GM symbols on them, and also put little GM symbols in the corner of their print ads?
95 Z/28 LT1 03-12-2006, 02:35 PM I really wish GM would have saved those emblems for their 100th anniversary. :shame:
