How hard is it to replace a c-clip in the rear axle? Could I buy the clip at a local parts store or would it have to be ordered?

I have some new ones somewhere... but ya, you should be able to get them at a parts store, otherwise a dealer will have them and they're pretty cheap. 69gto96z 03-09-2006, 12:18 AM Cool, thanks for the info. 94Camaro_Z_28 03-09-2006, 09:43 AM One of the easiest things you'll do. Pull the cover, and theres a pin in there that holds the spider gears and the axles tight. It's held in by an 8mm bolt. Take out the bolt, push the pin out. It's easier on a Posi since the spider gears wont come out. If you're dealing with an open rear and they do, it's no big deal getting them back in. To replace the clip, with the pin removed, push the rim towards the center of the car, the axle will slide in about a half inch and the c-clip will either fall off or just be sitting there. Pull the old one, slide the new one on. Repeat for other side, re-install pin. Gasket, cover, lube.....you're done :D wrd1972 03-09-2006, 11:09 AM Very easy to do. Easily less than an hour. 69gto96z 03-10-2006, 03:27 PM So on my stock 3.42 rear end the spider gears wont fall out will they? wrd1972 03-10-2006, 03:52 PM So on my stock 3.42 rear end the spider gears wont fall out will they? No, they are captured in there plenty tight by the springs. 69gto96z 03-11-2006, 07:46 PM Well it was pretty easy to do. Thanks for all the info. StudyTime 03-12-2006, 09:16 AM Well it was pretty easy to do. Thanks for all the info. Where did you pick them up at? Glad to know it went well. Ben T. 69gto96z 03-14-2006, 02:04 AM I had to get them at a dealership. It was a dealer only part, and I went to 3 different dealerships before they finally sent me to the right one. 69gto96z 03-28-2006, 01:46 AM Well this did not fix my problem. Both axles still have about an 1/8" of play in em. What else could cause this? | ||
