newer stock radio in a 94?
Re: newer stock radio in a 94?
It will physically fit, bit it may not look right.
The reason I say that is that the trim bezel on the 94 dash is not square. The right side angles in towards the top. The 93-96 radios are designed to compliment this angle.
I have had excellent luck using the stock 94 Bose head unit. Here is how:
I purchased a Delco/Bose radio. I then went to the salvage yard with my wire cutters and snagged the radio pigtail from a compatable GM car. I believe it was a Cavalier. I plugged the radio pigtail into the new radio and sorted out the wires. I went to Radio Shack and bought a GM harness adapter and 4 male RCA jacks. I soldered the RCA jacks onto the 4 speaker outputs. The Bose radio has line level outputs with no built in amplifier. I then connected the +Ign, +Bat, +Dim, -Ground to the GM harness adaptor and plugged that into the harness in my car.
Now, install your system just like any other aftermarket setup. I placed a Soundstream Reference 405 amp in the back and replaced all the speakers. I wired everything in good quality power and speaker wires and ran a couple RCA cables from the head unit to the amp. I also got a long piece of wire and connected it to the "power antenna" lead on the head unit. That wire was used as the amp trigger.
Pretty simple, sounds great, looks completely stock until you open the trunk and see the subwoofer and amp.
