Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with tranny fluid leaking through the rear main seal, and puffing blue smoke. I have had my '85 for 7 months now, and it is burning through some tranny fluid, but not engine oil. Any input would help

I beleive the rear main seal has to do with the engine oil, not the transmission oil. I'm sure sombody will chime in on this and see if it has any truth to it or not. And I have no idea what the blue smoke might be.

Yes a leaky rear main seal would leak engine oil, not transmission fluid. Blue smoke comes from buring oil. Your engine could have broken/worn piston rings depeneding on how many miles you have on that 85. Also, pull some plugs and check if they are full of oil. Could be leaky valve seals.

I don't know which tranny your 85 has, but trannys like th350s have vacuum modulators. A torn dipahram in the modulator would cause engine vacuum to suck thru ATF into engine.
