Do these 10 bolts have a removable reluctor for ABS, or is it part of the posi unit?
I ask because I have a 7 5/8" 10 bolt posi (auburn HP series) and it does not have a reluctor wheel on the unit. Want to make sure I have the right one before I open the diff up.
I have this one...

But is it supposed to look like this?

I have seen both types listed as the correct one for this application...:shrug: Is this a 3 vs 4 way ABS thing? I have what I assume is 3-way because I dont have traction control....

The reluctor on that Auburn Cone is a resistance fit. It can be removed and installed with a plastic hammer. My 95 didn't have traction control and had the narrow reluctor that you have pictured. You probably know that the yellow band over the reluctor is for shipping and installation protection.

I didn't have much luck removing the reluctor ring off of my original carrier in order to install it on the Zexel carrier I put back in. I broke it. I bought a replacement reluctor ring from SLP (http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=26029) and pressed it onto the Zexel.
And your right. Only non TCS cars have the reluctor ring mounted on the carrier {3-channel ABS}
Traction control equipped cars have a reluctor made into each of the rear axle shafts and a sensor at each outer axle housing end {4-channel ABS}. :)

The flange diameter on the Auburn and the Torsen are very slightly different and the reluctors aren't interchangeable as you know.

I didn't know that. I didn't make it that far. I broke the ring on the Auburn before I got it off.
SLP gives the same part # for 93-97 as for 98-02. This would lead me to believe the rings are the same since Auburns were installed in one catagory and Zexels in another.
GM only list a different part# based on:
Without Limited Slip . 26014607
With Limited Slip . 26029185
:confused:
EDIT Never mind. I missread your post. The reluctors are the same. Didn't know there was a difference in carrier diameter either.

Ok so the info is that both those posi's pictured are the same, one just already has the reluctor pressed on. I just wanted to make sure it was not an integral part of the carrier. If mine does not come off right, GM should have a replacement on the shelf. Ya lol I know the plastic is for shipping only, I have done a few rearends in my time, but they all either did not have a reluctor, or it was sandwiched between the ring gear and the carrier (Sterling 10.5" in my truck)
Thanks for the info.
